Against dark eldar armies what would you suggest, lots of boyz i.e. 30 strong mobz, or a mechanised army which will count lots of their poisoned weapons useless i.e. most of their weapons? How do people survive reaver jetbikes, because of their 36" movement they can use their bladevane and the champion's caltrops to potentially diminish big squads of boys?
Another option is to just field a normal army, however seeing as witches have iniative 7 I don't think that will end well for the orks. Finally how would people deal with Lelith Hespairax and would Ghazghull Thraka be any use?
Heres a thread on this topic with my opinions on what to take and what to do. 327 views and zero responses later, its kind of a necro-thread, but it has my ideas on how to beat them. Let me know what ya think!
Don't just WAAAGH straight into them. Against DE, you will do well to hang back and let your superior firepower whittle them down on the way in (for ONCE). The more of them you can strand in no-man's-land, the easier a time you'll have mobbing the ever-living heck out of the ones that make it through. And let's be honest, DE aren't tough - you'll take a bigger chunk out of them than you're used to.
Keep in mind that their poisoned weapons aren't a huge big hairy deal. Nasty against your warboss, but most of your guys are T4 - you're used to taking wounds on a 4+ anyway.
Don't feed partial units to them to slow them down. A DE unit gets tougher and nastier every time it munches a unit.
Lean on your lootas to knock down the units that have managed to get a pain token or two. Lots of wound-on-two, no-armor, no-FNP hits? Heck yes!
You're unlikely to shoot out the bikers (who are probably turbo-boosting every round). But in close combat they're no great shakes. Try to hold a fast-reaction unit back to make 'em pay for sweeping through your lines.
I think lootas and shootas are a great idea. Initiative is a problem, but we lose in that regard to almost any other army, so its not a huge deal. Shoot'em down (transports), shoot'em up (once out of transport), chop em up (survivors).
So are you saying wait back and then suddenly counter attack them with the rest ot the army. Also would burnas in a battlewagon be any good at fighting?
Not much by themselves. One thing you can count on when facing a DE army is plenty of lances on the other side. If you've got a fully mechanized army with a KFF or two, then yeah, you could do worse than filling a wagon with burnas. On the other hand, though, if you've got one lonesome wagon out there, it's gonna get shot up but good. As usual, the survival of ork vehicles depends on having plenty of 'em!
As far as the burnas themselves... you know, I don't really think DE is a good army to take 'em against. They're an assault-centered army, so the ability to burn out infantry in cover isn't as much of an advantage as usual. They're also a fast army, and so they're going to be a lot more likely to be able to dance around your burnas (or hang back long enough, then bore right in for the assault, giving you no real chance to light 'em up.) Finally, you just can't take a big mob of burnas, and so going toe-to-toe in assault with assault DE units is a losing proposition. Your best bet would be to use them as a mobile fire reserve, piling in to make sure that DE units with FNP don't survive combat; if another mob is already soaking up the casualties, you can commit a smallish unit of burnas without just getting them killed. But for that purpose, a trukk would be preferable to a battlewagon...
