so ive officially fallen in love with flayed ones. really, how can you not love the little things? best CC unit the necrons have, nice special rules, better painting challenge with better results, and theyre CHEAP. 2 models for $10 is much more to my liking then 1 model for $12-25.
PS: i know someone is going to get confused by this seemingly meaningless thread. basically as long as its about flayed ones its on topic. talk about the time they won you the game, or the time they slaughtered a tough enemy, or cool painting ideas you have for them, or tactics you use. i dont care what, its an appreciation thread.
I've not found them to be particularly useful. I'd rather take another squad of 10 warriors, but you're right they are decent models.
I think you need to be able to sneak them up on the enemy really so that they don't get shot to pieces trying to close. Deep striking them is good, but every time i've done that they've deviated in the wrong direction.
I've got a unit of 10 of them, but like my Pariahs, they stay on the shelf!!!
Well i have 10 flayed ones, that i use in almost every battle in 2 squads of 5 with a 4 man pariah squad. im still working on good ways to use them. Against tyranids, some TMC always comes in and smashes them to little bits. they seem to work very well against SM troops though. i killed 20 of em with a 5 man squad. Very fun vs eldar though! Only with cover. otherwise those starcannons blast them to oblivion...
I love the model, of course I love every necron model, part of what got me into WH and Necron (it was Necron or Tyranid...)
Necron will stand for eternity.Their race has survived aeons by trading their very souls for metal bodies. Now, they will live on through eternity and will vanquish all life from our universe. For they are Necron. Flesh is weak. The machine will rise!
Flayed Ones, Flayed Ones, Flayed Ones. Probly the best unit in the game, for the purpose of tying units up :shifty: . They are like putty. Take a full sqd of 10, ohh ya. Why I say that is because they have 2 attacks base, their special rule is awsome for tying units down, and they get back up. And they have bad@$$ modles probly my favorite modle in the Necron army.
I generally always take at least one full squad of Flayed Ones in all of my lists. I treat them like Close Combat Warriors, seeing as they cost the same, and also increase my Phase Out value. Additionally, I find them necessary not because of their special rules, but because I need *something* to balance out the lack of close combat that my Necrons generally have. Heh, they're essentially tactical squad killers But at any rate, Flayed Ones =
I am painting 10 flayed ones. I bought them cause i love the model and sooner i´m going to use them in some battles. On the other hand i am painting 6 wraith ... yes i actually play a total shooty necron army. I have won a lot of battles but i need to use new tactics and paint a different kind of necron.
2 out of our 4 or so real CC options are in fast attack...flayed ones provide us with a cheap unit that can get into CC fast and actually win the combat, unlike scarabs who are often used to just tie up a unit until you can get around to killing them. The only disadvantage of flayed ones is they often fall victim to a powerweapon hidden in a squad of marines. In 1000 points I usually run between 5 and 8 flayed ones, depending on my mood and my opponent.
I like what Flayed Ones can do, but I can't stand the model. I think (I know this is just my opinion) it looks really stupid, and very unflufy from my point of view on the Necrons. I'm happy to run Wraiths and Scarabs, but I'll manage without these. Warriors are just more worth those points thanks to Gauss weaponry and the fact you can't assault after any teleportation.
you cannot assault out of deepstrike or VoD but you can out of a monolith. Deepstrike your monolith then have your flayed ones pop out into the nearest squad.
question. the base attack for a flayed one is 2. now they are equiped with claws. does that count as having TWO close combat weapons. if so, then if they charged, they woulld have a total of 4 attacks each....right????
