Welcome to Librarium Online!
Since the first list I have put together with the new codex I have been running with at least four 5 man warrior squads with blaster in raiders with flicker fields. I have had nothing but success with them, but scanning the web I see lots of hate for them.
Are these opinions just anomalies or is there something I am missing?
MSU spam in that configuration is solid IMO. Versatile against everything, fast, but extremely flimsy. My advice, run 6 units of them with whatever army you enjoy. When you find what works best with your playstyle, start running less of them. Remember you will never outshoot IG and SW, so some CC is a must.
Its not even the spamming them that seems to be the issue for some individuals. I agree with you completely on the balance issue. One of my troops is always a 10 man wrack unit with x2 LG, and I always run with a unit of incubi and bloodbrides.
Was just seeing how people thought of them as troops.
I would probably only run them in smaller games in larger ones I like to have more beefed up units with more specialized roles and I usually run 6 full strength scoring units in 2000.
As the only scoring units in an army? Total and utter waste of points.
A way to add to your anti-tank without using other, more valuable slots? A cheap way to get some blasters in without dicking over your elite/fast attack slots.
Also: MSU isn't suited to DE when done in a "pure" manner due to the lack of the required durability.
should be a fun game and in this context, i can see the smaller squad sizes being better than a larger squad
I'm not a fan of this squad, I see it as people looking what works in other codexes and trying to copy it ourselves.
I'm not saying that it's terrible, just not optimal.
It costs 130pts, unless you're using a naked raider, or a venom, neither of which I reccomend.
Imperial Guard get meltavets for 155pts.
Blood Angels get 5 man assault squads in razorbacks with assault cannons, TL lascannon or lascannon and tl plasmaguns for 155pts.
What advantage do we have?
-2 lances that can fire at different targets
What advantages do they have?
-Chimera can dead with infantry or light vehicles
-Razorback does Anti Transport better than us
-Both are much tougher, both the vehicle and squad inside
-Both can make easy use of cover
So they have better anti tank, anti infantry, and are tougher than we are. Our army already has problems in killpoints before you start up MSU, and you may not want to risk these squads in objective games because your other scoring units are wytches and wracks that are trying to charge the enemy and will probobly be killed.
I just dont see these things as the solid choice that they're hyped up to be, maybe 1-2 for capturing objectives cheaply but that's it in my opinion.
