Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've tried all of the hq choices except the parasite, but haven't found one that works reliable for me except the warrior prime.
The tyrants are to expensive for only 4 wounds and bad powers,
Swarmlord is even more expensive and it needs the costly guards
the tervigons just suck because I roll doubles to often en they can't fight,
the primes are cheap, can take good weapons, and have nice synergy with warriors who aren't bad troop choises
Anyone have any thoughts about the parasite?
What (and how many) do you run?
What is a good spore army choice?
Typically, if you're going to run the Parasite, you put him in a large unit of gargoyles. They are normally used to hold up the enemy until reinforcements can get there. I don't normally see him in competitive lists, but I have played against him once with my Space Wolves. The tyranid player actually did alright (and by that, I meant that he didn't get tabled by my wolves).
Personally, I'm a hive tyrant (or Swarmlord) person. If used properly, they are pretty nasty, but you need to give them at least 1 tyrant guard so that they can get a cover save. Tyranid Primes are good also. It all depends on what type of list you want to run. I tend to be more top-heavy (dual tyrants) as I put a lot of my offense into them. With a prime list, you depend more on the rest of your army to provide the offense.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
A related question, what do people think of Tyrants with Armoured Shell, Guards and a gun? In a list with Hive Guard and a Tyranofex, Tervigon and generally a wave of troops.
Too expensive for 1500? Because with a Tervigon and Tyranofex it's a good 800 points in 3 units.
I have a Prime who seems to be just as good, absorbs high S wounds for my Warriors, gives synapse, tears Independent Characters to bits with his Boneswords and generally is all you could want in a HQ; for less than half the price of the Tyrant.
I ask because I have 2 Guards (bulk buy off a friend) and no Tyrant; apparently being accidentally crushed by a car causes instant death...
I'd recommend a max of 2 MCs in a 1500 point game, so the Hive Tyrant with Guard and Tervigon OR Tyrannofex would be the way to go. That's only if you have the points to spend. But ditch the Armoured Shell.
Your friendly neighbourhood gargantuan creature
Heirodule meant "no reason NOT to run 3 MCs". My personal rule of thumb is 33-50% of my points are invested in MCs.
