2 OK, sometimes, I guess.
3 A solid choice.
4 An exceptional unit.
5 Put this in your army.
This is part of a group of polls on how powerful various units are to help me in the writing of my new tactica. I am not going to post my opinions straight away as I don't want to influence people.
This poll is about the Fast Attack choice Hellions. To get a better handle on what the voting scale represents you can read it in its entirety Here
I really don't know what to think about these guys. They seem solid, but not on their own. I feel like they need Sathonyx to be good, but then they get very expensive for a troop choice with T3 and 5+ save. I haven't gotten around trying them out yet, so I may be missing something, but they just seem a bit too pricey for my taste.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
These guys are actually pretty deadly. If you can get them to the fight relatively unharmed.
They are a bit pricey with upgrades however.
Getting them a pain token ASAP if they are troops is really important, otherwise they die really easily.
I like the idea of hellions however i find i want my fast attack to have anti-mech which means I'm not playing hellions. if you go for the troops option that can be viable but it gets expensive quick
With Initiative 6, combat drugs, the Hellglaive, splinterpods and the fact they are Jump Infantry, these guys are one of the cheapest but powerfull units in the 'dex.
They need cover, but with their speed they should be able to hop from place to place in relative safety. Shooting at 18" with an Assault 2, Poisoned weapon is ideal for softening up an enemy before an assault. And don't forget the +1 strength from the Hellglaive, which means Hellions can attack vehicles with some effect.
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
I'm with Kantoken here, they are extremely powerful. Not only the points listed above, but being able to H&R is an amazing ability as well that gives hellions many more strategies. The hellglaive gives the squad a real punch at a fearsome I6 that makes even Daemon princes pause If shot first, of course!
Signature? What, do I sign my name here or something?
hellions seem to be a solid choice all i would worry about is dangerous terrain in assults, you rly do need the baron to make this unit exeptional thats why i voted them a solid choice, but because you would lose to many to dangerous terrain without the baron, or mabye running them with reavers would be a great way to protect the reavers from combat. just a thought tho.
Not a huge fan of Hellions.
They can't match other, specialised, close combat units that, when mounted in a raider, are almost as fast as Hellions. They also can't match the ranged proficiency of other units. They seem to be a jack-of-all trades, master of none choice which is counter intuitive when I like my units to be filling a specialised role.
If I had to go with an all-rounder choice I prefer the reavers as they are almost as good in combat, and they are more proficient at damaging units without engaging them in combat.
My two cents worth,
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares, your a mile away and you have his shoes!!
Chuck Norris invented water
Has anyone tried using them with WWP? I feel like that could be nasty.
