Maybe there is a thread for this already so sorry for repeat ?
Has anyone anyone any advice on tactics I could follow for my Necrons versus Orks (1000 pts). I am inexperienced and have my first game with new opponent who is a good player. I would at least like to not get obliterated. Should I just hide behind something?
I have available:
1 Heavy Destroyer
Any ideas on this much appreciated.
Well I would certainly exclude the HeavyDestroyer.
He cost many points in a 1000pts army list and he is alone. You need at least two if you don't want to give your opponent easy kill points. Also is a bit uselless against Orks.Their trucks are not heavily armored.Destroyers can easily bring them down with a round of shooting.
For the HD points you can add one more Destroyer and some Necron Warriors. Also consider taking a Tomb Spider it might work!
Then it would be nice if you can tell us your NL's inventory. It is really important.
l'd personally throw a NL with Destroyer body,Warsythe,Phase shift and if possible Gaze Of Flame in squad of 5 r more Scarabs Swarms with Distruption Fields. Then I could try to encircle the Ork's Trucks and destroy them. The passengers won't be able to dissembark due to the fact that no model can be place within 1" so the whole unit with the Truck would be destroyed.Belive me is extremely fun and annoying against Orks!
As for tactics.
Well, there is a simple rule for anyone who faces Orks. Not get assaulted.Even though Necron Warrior have T4 Orks have many attacks. You will certainly have casaultes.
Try to destroy (at least immobilise) your opponents Trucks with the Destroyers and then gun the passengers down.
Hardest 1k Necron list is this
You will destroy pretty much any army with that much shooting at 1k. Including Orks. Failing having more destroyers, it's your call. Just FYI.

I prefer this to dark trainers build:
Lord - Orb & Warscythe
It does loose a lot in terms of fire-power but the wraiths are worth it IMO. They allow me to deal with things like vindicators or leman russes I would otherwise struggle against. On a general note however you need at LEAST 6 destroyers (2x3 build). They do SO well against orks as their transports are very fragile. Once they have knocked out the transports your warriors mass fire-power is the way to go. Without a lith it is EXTREMELY important to avoid getting charged, so avoid that at all costs.
