Hey I'm looking at getting another ork army, as now I have a deathskull army but because of my love of the entire ork codex/model range I'm looking to get a second army! I'm looking at a Green Tide hybrid led by Ghaz or a bike army led by Wazdakka.
So the question is how many mega-nobz per unit? And how many bikers in a unit? and how many biker units since wazdakka makes them troops? I tried looking around the forum here but the posting has been a little slow....
Repainting Orks not sure how many points yet
Warriors of Chaos shelved until further notice
Most people use 3-5 mega nobz mounted in a battle wagon. I use 4 and it usually packs quite a punch. Combi-flamers work well on them.
Bikers vary. Generally 5-7 with one as a nob with pk. They can lay down a lot of fire that way and not be wiped out so easily, plus they work great as a "powerklaw delivery system" or as a screening unit for your other stuff.
Sounds like you're doing a theme here so perhaps go with all bikers? It gives you a bunch of versatile, fast units that can claim objectives and fulfill most roles on the field. They're more fragile than massive boy units, but can get a lot done. By using a lot of them you can gang up on targets in the shooting phase and then sweep in for the kill.
meganobz work very well in the minimum squad size alone. If you start pumping the meganobz up, you're going to want to attach an HQ to them with a bosspole, so when they have to take a morale check, they won't fail on their LD of 7. (and if they do, at least they'll get a boss pole reroll).
When 3 run away its not a big deal. When 7 run away, it is.
I converted 5 MANZ so thats the squad size I normally use. I started by always attaching Grotsnik to them so they would get FNP and get to purchase cybork bodies, I recently started using them without Grotsnik, not having an invulnerable save makes them much more vulnerable but as long as you use them surgically they can usually do well. I mount mine in trukks normally since my battlewagon always gets popped in the first turn but again thats personal preference. But to answer your question, I would use between 4-5, anything more is overkill and a points sink
2000pts Orks 4-2-1
All the advice above is solid. 3-5 Meganobz w/combi-skorchas is the way to go. If I'm using a big mek w/KFF in the list, I like giving him cybork and a bosspole, and attaching him to the unit of meganobz, in whatever vehicle they're riding inside. The bosspole is invaluable for them.
I use warbike squads in units of 5-6, with nob and powerklaw. If you're playing a wazzdakka army, I like using 3-4 units, along with 1-2 units of either grots or shoota boyz, for objective grabbing. Warbikes are great at many things, but sitting on objectives is not one of them.
