Welcome to Librarium Online!
I had an idea for my hive tyrant...so I decided to put it into action. I have found a Todd McFarlane Alien Figure from 1997 Fox. Below are two images of it(they are attached to the forum). It has movable joints, etc., so I could position it however. My plan is to
A) remove the spines from his back,
B ) get some GreenStuff and add two sets of scything talons (probably one set coming from right behind the arms and the other from his sides),
C) Add wings for this dude (haven't decided which or how to do the job yet),
D)possibly remodel the head a bit to look more Nid like, and
E) repaint the thing! Any helpful ideas?

Looks like a cool mod to pull off, looking forward to the end result, as for suggestions i would say dont mod the head too much maybe add a few little spikes (like a trygon prime head) or ridgelines along it to make it a little less like a LV426 alien, my only other reccomendation would to make his natural armor thicker like add plates to key parts of the arms and legs, or on the back (remembering to leave space to add those wings) its kinda hard to make comment without knowing what you want in the end, but i guess thats why you want suggestions. Anyway Good luck with it hope it turns out awesome
p.s on a second look at the side profile, the head placement seems too forward to me, i dont know it its possible but i would chop it off then rattach it so the neck attaches to the where the top of the sholderline is (from the side perspective) instead of infront of it, it may seem a little annoying but its those little diffrences that move it away from the original alien design that get people saying hey he modeled it after the alien instead of thats just a modded alien figure

That looks like an interesting idea.
I've had a poke at modeling and painting things (figures etc) that aren't sold with the idea they will be painted. Beware of the softness of the plastic, it may make it hard to remove mouldlines. Also you may find that the level of detail on your figure and Tyranid parts you plan to use is different. This can cause the problem that the parts you add will really stand out as things you've added and spoil the illusion of it being one big beasty. To handle this you can try to add more Tyranid parts or use careful shading when you paint to merge these areas.
I think that you may get away with just letting the Alien keep his hands. As long as you tell your opponent what it's got, (scything talons etc) then there should not be a problem. I have a Hive Tyrant converted into a scorpion and the claws I gave are meant to be a bonesword and lashwhip, it grabs people quick, being a clever wiley Tyrant (lashwhip, initiative drop on enemy). It snaps necks of the unwary with big pincers of those it catches (instant death LD test of the bonesword). What does your big-bug do to people when it grabs them?
I think that you should take a few liberties with what your Hive Tyrant has on himand what he's got, it will make things easier. I think that GW stores (if you play there) don't allow products by other companies to be used.
Hope this helps, I'll try to think of more.
