Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have recently gotten back into 40k, and have found that the destryoers have changed, I have 9 of the pewter ones that could be fielded as either heavies or regular (one heavy per squard for +10 points) but now the heavies look different, can I still field these as heavies? if not how can i paint them otherwise? I don't have access to bits and a heavy destroyer is $25!!! I've already spent a lot on the 9 ($20 each) destroyers, and would really like to field them as heavies like I used to, How can I? Any ideas?
I wouldn't have a problem playing against your destroyers.
just make sure whoever you're playing against understands how you're using them. most people wont be overly concerned as long as there is something there that hints at what it is.
i personally would suggest painting the heavies a special color, or giving them a special marking, or doing something to their bases. it doesnt have to be a huge thing, just enough to tip people off that 'hey, these arent the same thing'.
Thank you for the suggestions! I will get to painting right away :-)
If you wanted to make sure they looked like heavies all you would have to do is somehow lengthen the gauss weapon they have.
The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!
when i bought a metal necron army a few years ago on EBay, the guy modified two destroyers to heavies by using a flying stand. He cut off the tip of the cannon on the jetbike, and the nub on the bottom the stand rod. Once glued together as a longer cannon, he painted the whole thing the same color (green). Is it the best modeling? No, but your opponents while be easily able to distinguish your normal destroyers from your heavies.
I would post a picture of them, but I sold that army a few months ago. I still have a few old metal destroyers and an old necron lord if anyone wants them! PM me if you want to discuss this!
Try finding a straw that'll fit on the end of the gun, then you could use it to lengthen the barrel a bit, and you could even use the flight stand idea to go inside it and peak out the tip a bit to make it interesting.
Honestly, I would just bitz order the heavy D guns. their like 3 bucks.
