Pretty much, that's what I've been told.

No, they're certainly not useless. Be careful when talking to people about units like this. If we read further into the statement "X unit is useless" it really means "X unit is useless with my play style and tactics." Heavy destroyers fill the role of penetrating heavy armor and pariahs fill the role of killing everything in close combat no matter what it's save. As for how useful they are with the way I see necron as being played, I think the fact that every unit in the army can hurt tanks puts heavy destroyers towards the bottom of the list while pariahas are expensive and are not necron, which also puts them low on my list. If you like the units then by all means use them, don't let someone else tell you what to use.
The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!
I'm probably going to start Necrons as my first army, and Pariahs sound incredibly destructive, but incredibly difficult to use. If I understand the unit correctly, they don't get the "Get back up" rule and they can't get teleported by a monolith, so they have to walk across the field to do anything. I figure an intelligent opponent will stay away from them to avoid close combat, and shoot them to pieces because they're an expensive unit that isn't as durable as most other Necrons.
If you're going to use Pariahs, how do you use them properly, and what's the lowest point army you should spare the points to use them in?
the only way ive heard of people using pariahs well, is as a combo with a lord and some flayed ones.
a full squad of pariahs would be utterly useless i think. way too many points into something thats going to die far too quickly (bullet magnet after all), and probably isnt going to buy itself back (only 1 CC attack after all).
Pariahs aren't the first things I'd buy but they are far from useless.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
Actually, heavy destroyers are one of the most useful units in most of my lists. The Gauss Glancing rule is nice, but I find that I need that extra strength to bust tanks. I typically take at least 2 squads of 2 or 2 squads of 3 if I feel the opponents require it. It can cost a goodly amount of points, but well worth it in my experience.
Heh, and I also dig pariahs, but it takes a certain finesse to use them properly. As someone said before, they typically need to be used with in conjunction with another unit such as flayed ones, a lord w/nightmare shroud, El Deceivo, et cetera. Heh all in all, I actually dig both units very much :o
Heavy Destroyers are great to squeeze one into an Army List. I know that whenever I take one by itself it has almost always made back its points since all it needs to do it pop a Rhino (Basically a 3+, 2+, 4+ roll) or any other armor on the board. Also, it is great at hurting the big Nids or Demon Princes before they get into hth.
Pariah are a very good unit if you find a way they fit into your tactics for your army. I know I have been tending to use them recently and stick them with the main groups of warriors. That way if someone comes up to assault them I can either lower their leadership if I can win a combat to make them break or jump into hth to save my warriors if it is something like termies or killa kans. I also have a Lord with scarabs that is made to make people lose combat and fail thier leadership so they can help even more with that even though the combo works well without the Pariah.
i find that heavy destroyers are needed for actually penetrating the armour on a vehicle. as for pariahs i dont use them, but they have good assault weapons and are good in closecombat.
It won't - Won't break me
It won't - Defeat me
We will - Will break you
We will - Defeat you
Well i have never used heavy destroyers nor do i own any, so noadvice there.
I have 4 pariahs which I use regularely in 1500 point games. Their abilty to lower leadership within 12" and their psychic abomination AND their warscythes makes them excellent against TMC's in my opinion. they can kill a carnifex before it attacks, while against tyrants it may make it fail a test if they can survive a turn. They are extremely good against terminators also, as they attack before the power fist models. in short they are good against big buky slow models.
True they are very expensive and don't get a WBB, but look at other armies. Nothing get's a WBB so quit complaining!
Necron will stand for eternity.Their race has survived aeons by trading their very souls for metal bodies. Now, they will live on through eternity and will vanquish all life from our universe. For they are Necron. Flesh is weak. The machine will rise!
Yeah, my friend loves to hunt down my TMC's with his pariahs, but they aren't too good against hordes of troops. If I were using pariahs i'd use them for character killing, but their mobility is their problem.heir warscythes makes them excellent against TMC's in my opinion. they can kill a carnifex before it attacks, while against tyrants it may make it fail a test if they can survive a turn
You call those cheap implants boobs?
They aren't boobs, they're lies!
