    Free agent Warlocks

I am still reading the rules and probably have not come across the answer to this yet, and i probably wouldn't fully understand it if i read it anyway.

Can i add a Warlock to any unit i field on the table? If i have an HQ of a Farseer and 3 Warlock bodyguards can i still add a 4th Warlock to a unit of Dire Avengers? Or ever a unit of Dire Avengers with and Exarch?

Everything about the unit of warlocks is written fairly clearly on p. 60 of Codex. No warlocks from the unit may leave the squad any additional warlocks purchased in this entry must remain with the squad; some other squads are able to purchase warlocks, but it is written in their own entry in the codex and may not leave the squad they are attached to as well.

I would love to have a warlock in an avenger squad, but sadly it is illegal so far.

    That would be sexy!
But imagine if we could get 3-6 warlocks in one big group and attach farseer to them, and maybe even give them jetbikes or a transport to be uber-fast, now that could be quite an idea! =)

    Cheers

You can already do that. You can add Warlocks to be with the Farseer as a squad.

Note that you don't have to take a farseer to have warlocks in your guardian units, and they do not count against the ten in a warlock squad. Entirely seperate things.

Also note that warlocks don't have any special rules related to being bodyguards. They're just a squad you can take if you have a farseer. So you could have the warlocks on their own or with an autarch and the farseer rolling with the Banshees.

How can they be attached to an Autarch? Can a Farseer leave his squad of Warlocks and then the Autarch can join it?

as sunnyside explained - the warlocks aren't a specific bodyguard unit. Therefore if you take a farseer with a group of warlocks as one HQ choice and an autarch as the other HQ choice, the warlocks are simply a unit by themselves, so the autarch can join them just like an independent character joins any other unit.

The farseer does not have to join the unit of warlocks, he is only necessary to be allowed to take a unit of them - and is free to leave/join the unit at any juncture where leaving/joing squads would be permissable.
