I've been wanting to try out some stormboyz, since I've been doing a lot of speedy lists lately, and was wondering how other people have fared with them, as well as a good, cheap way to convert slugga boyz into them.
Anyone have success (or failure) stories with them?
I like storm boyz. Their speed rocks. Generally people field them as a big mob (I use 20 with pk nob) or as a small "throwaway unit", often with a nob with big choppa. I like the speed that they bring- it creates flexibility that mobile mobz lack. I run a largely horde list, so the opponent is often torn between shooting the storm boyz or the regular 30-strong mobz.
That being said, they're fragile! They are regular boyz that can move more, but they die as easily.
Remember their versatility. They can be held back in safety until the moment is right to strike. They can rush forward immediately and cause problems for the enemy when they thought they were safe. They can intervene in assaults that are already happening and add a big punch to turn the tide and save another of your units.
I love the GW models but if you're trying to kitbash some slugga boyz into the equation then I suggest pens. The caps work as rockets and you can chop up pens into tubular rockets too. Then add bits and such and some wires and stuff and you're good to go!
I considering buying space marine jump pack bits for mine, but that could get expensive. I honestly find them too fragile to be worth using, but they are definitely still a good unit.
Glad to hear they're a decent unit! And that idea with the pens is ingenious! I'm going to start rummaging for old pens straight away.
Just made the first of my stormboyz using the pen-tube idea, and a few of the shoulderpads from the boyz sprue made it look pretty good! Thanks for the great idea Seanchadith!
Glad to hear it, methodical meat! If you don't like how they play, then tear off the pens and use them as regular boyz.
