Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, so I know we have an awesomely balanced codex, which I'm quite happy for. But like everything in this world one thing usually ends up on top,
Now this will be different for everyone, because everyone plays differently, however for me there are a few really good contenders for the best dark elder unit.
1) ravager with FF and 3 dark lances: simply put, this model is a steal at 115 points, and you'd be mad not to want one. Downsides are that it can be pretty redundant against horde armies, but looking at my history of games, it's earnt it's pennies back every time!
2) 4 true born with blasters in a venom: this unit, whilst technically seems expensive for only one more shorter ranged dark lance, often comes up trumps. Having the 2 splinter cannons as well is a lovely side effect, and being smaller than a raider it can hide easier, one of my fave things that occurs is for my opponent to blow it up, and then to forget there are 4 guys still there with dark light weapons pointed in his face. It's downsides are the range, cost (almost 180 for this baby), and it has less armour than our friendly neighbourhood ravager, it does however not compete with the ravager for force org slots. It also deals with varied lists better as you have the splinter cannons to take on horde if need be.
3) personally I think this one wins my heart as well as the competition for it's fluffy nature and total versatility. 10x kabalites with a blaster on a raider with NS and splinter racks. It really seems to pull it'd weight in every game iv played, it's got 2 dark light weapons and 18 poisoned shots (and with TL that's 16 hits) it's fast, versatile, and powerfull at either, and it's a troops choice, for capturing, not only that but at a total of 185 points I really cant argue with your bang for your buck here. (now I know everyone likes different upgrades but so far out of 40 odd games where iv been playing 3 of these or simmilar units this has come out the most effective points for power option) note out of those 40 games I have not lost one, I'm not trying to brag, I just believe the win is down to this unit, and lots of dark light weaponry
Now I'd love to hear other peoples personal best units, whats that one unit you never want to be without? Why did you fall in love with it? What is its biggest weakness?
I'd also love to hear people's thoughts on my personal favourite ones,
Razorwing with dissies. Whatever missiles you want really.
This thing has a huge physical and psychological impact on the game.
I'm interested, though i want to try it Iv yet to play a game with one of these.. How does it fair, I love the idea of 4pie plates In a turn, but how effective is it beyond that, and is it worth the 50 points and armour reduction just for those missiles and one less weapon?
Ravager, pure and simple. Whether it's with Dissies or Lances, the little gunboat is awesome for it's price. Nightshields and Flickerfields make it even better.
Archon is also a pretty powerful creature, able to take on just about anything any army has to toss his way.
the thing about this codex is that theres going to be a lot of different favs. mine is the reavers so far, 9 with 3 blasters and caltrops can rip a transport open and assault the small squad inside with CC weapon pistol and combat drugs. a total beast unit all round. have not tried ravager but looking to get at least one magnetized.
Just pick the squad you like the least. It's gone turn 1(although I usually reserve mine to hit a target of opportunity later)
After it's first turn it fares pretty well. I keep it to anti-infantry duties though. 6 disintegrator shots are nasty. Usually it dies immediately. After the pie plate shenanigans it usually gets crushed, but it always takes more fire then it's worth. People will go after this rather then ravagers even though it's less effective after it blows it's missiles.
AttemptedDM I'm assuming you were referring to the razor wing jet fighter?
So my current heavy load out is:
2x Ravager w FF
1 Razorwing with Dissies, FF, and SC upgrade (Keep the missiles stock and save the points)
This razorwing is so awesome. Keep in reserve then arrive and shoot the infantry squad you want dead or very close. For me that tends to be High point cost elites (nobz/termies), heavy (long fangs / devastator squads), HQs with bodyguards.
This thing always gets his point cost back but rarely survives 2-3 turns. Great way to change the flow of the game on the second or third turn and make him have to attack something on the other side of the board
