Welcome to Librarium Online!
First off, no, this isn't the typical "if I score a wound and they save, does the target have to take a pinning test", my question relates to the second part of the phrase "...must take a Pinning test". Now, since the codex trumps the Basic Rulesbook, does that mean that units who are given the fearless USR as opposed to some codex's version of it still have to take a Pinning test?
Any thoughts are welcome, critques on my intellect, however, would be greatly unappreciated
Fearless units do not have to take a pinning test if wounded by carbines, they automatically pass all moral checks, just a miss wording of the codex not meant to be taken to literal, hope this helps.
I thought I was smart, but apparently people don't like to take advice from beggars...
It says in the photon grenade entry that the grenades are made to disoriente and blind their target. Since the pulse carbine has a pinning effect and is essentially just a lighter pulse rifle, sans grenade launcher, I feel the launcher is what gives it its pinning capability. Now, Since the grenades being launched were designed to confuse and disoient, I could see the pinning test being a way of showing that the target is disoriented and is stumbling around trying to get their footing. Regardless of how much you believe in the emperor, he won't save you from becoming blinded =P
The only thing that doesn't sit well with me is by this ruling, if fearless is redefined in the codex, suddenly it doesn't count anymore.
Also, a Pinning test is not a morale check, jsut fyi (which coincedentally means if you have enough markerlights, you can get a unit to instantly fail any pinning test they take, since insane heroism is only for morale checks).
You are correct. Units hit by Carbines must make a pinning check. Fearless units are not excluded from making the check. However If the unit is fearless it is automaticly passed. They Automaticly make it without having to roll the dice.

I would love to agree with you here, they do have to take a pinning test but as TBB says, they automatically pass any morale check, i'd love for that not to be the case as those ork boy squads of 30 (well... around 25 now) i would love for them to sit down and let me just unload my shells into them, unfortunately orks just don't give a crap... stupid mob rule. fair yet unfair at the same time.
