Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just wanted to know, i was watching a game an hour or two ago (Eldar v.s Tyranids) & we came up with a grey area, now with the 'Banshee Masks' the Howling Banshees become initiative 10 in the assault but any Tyranid models equipped with 'Lash Whips' become initiative 1 in the assault.
All 3 of us didn't know what to do, so we just said they cancel each other out until we actually find out what happens, so any helpful advice would be well appreciated. thanx
p.s i posted the same question in the Eldar forum.
Its in the FAQ. Banshee masks count for the first round, then lash kicks in. Apparently lash reduces the initative to 1, then modifers are applied. So in short, banshees are I10, then I1.

Just to clarify, banshees are I10 on the 1st round of assault and then I1 on subsequent rounds against a lash whip target.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
Either way it's a bit of a mute point, since the Banshees are gonna get whooped by a Tyrant anyhow, they can only hurt it on 6's, he's killing them on 2's.
No they were up against the Tyranid Prime & his Brood of Warriors the Tyrant was on the other side, but they were still wounding on 5's though.
Even 5's, even with 10 of them, chances are they won't last the distance They are my favourite Eldar unit, but w/out Jain Zar and at least an Exarch they are pretty worthless.
Statistically speaking, a unit of 10 Howling Banshees with no Exarch will inflict 5 wounds on Tyranid Warriors on the charge, and 3.3 wounds every round thereafter (before losses), with a 5-man unit of warriors (assuming all live, highly unlikely) inflicting 2.8 wounds in return. Not an ideal matchup but on average a winning combat for the Banshees.
The Tyrant matchup, however, they're much worse off at 2.5/1.6 and 1.8. Still a winnable matchup, if it weren't for the Lash Whip. It's also worth noting that Lash Whip only applies to models in base contact with the whip-owning model. (Also, Fortune/Doom/Paroxysm/other units can, of course, skew results in the real world)

the banshees rule is to take that kind of units.... you should kill them by shooting, or by mass attack(multi gaunts charge, multi stealers charge)- they shouldn't survive after 1st round of CC
