Welcome to Librarium Online!
So, my girlfriend just began a DE army. I picked her up the battle force, the codex, and then, a week later, Drazhar. (Her favorite, for fluff and the model.)
In helping her build them, naturally I read the entire codex, so as to learn what's best for her. They're certainly not the best army for a beginner, but hey, the girl knows what she wants. And, being male, only the unwise of us get in the way of that. Anyway, I fell in love.
And not with her.
I play CSM, and enjoy it readily. Yet, I am drawn to DE! I enjoy everything from the models, to the rules, to how they play! I find myself very jealous of her army, and am considering starting one of my own!
I was just wondering if any of you guys began the army the same way. I feel like I'm betraying my beloved Black Legion, but this is certainly more than a school girl crush. Haha.
My interest in Dark Eldar started way back when there was the Space Marines vs Dark Eldar starter set. People would give me warriors and be like "Here you go, these suck". I picked up the old codex and it talked about how Dark Eldar are like a connoisseur's army, delicate and powerful.
Maybe you were meant to play Dark Eldar all along and never knew it?

I didn't start the exact same way. But I did start by accident. I picked up the codex because I get them all as they come out. I read it and I thought the intended play style was awesome. I saw the Hellions and thought (and still do) that they were the most amazing looking models in the 40k universe. I got some just to build them and I figured worst case to use them to highlight other models. A trygon eating a Hellion while the skyboard is impaled on a talon? Yes.
Anyway I built 5. Then 5 more. Then 5 more. Then I converted up a baron model. Then it was 20 wyches and 2 raiders, razorwing conversion, 2 ravagers a bunch of trueborn, duke sliscus. And now it's just out of hand. Ordering a phantom Titan in 2 weeks to convert to DE (don't tell me I can't because it's happening.)
I just fell into it. And now its my only pursuit.
I had much the same starting story as the OP, my best friend and I both got our tax refunds and I was looking through my army books to help him figure out what army he wanted to start. Then I picked up my dark eldar codex and began talking to him about the playstyle and models in the Dark Eldar army and very nearly convinced myself. The last straw was seeing some of the finecast models and realising that a battleforce was about to be produced and I ended up doing Dark Eldar myself.
I fear my space wolves may be locked away in my closet for the forseeable future.
I dont play DE but i have to say their transport vehicals are so attrative that i just want one.
Playing 3 armies already i refuse to start another so I am currently working out how to turn it into a Looted wagon for Orks with a pirate feel to it
Tau: 6K - W17-D3-L4, Orks: 4K - W9-D0-L2, SM: 7K - W7-D3-L4,CSM: 4K W5-D1-L1, Nids: 3.2K W3-D0-L2
Apoc games (mixture of armies used): W5-D0-L1
I'd like to see that when you're finished. Maybe put the wheels from a trukk on it... And paint them red. And give one of the ork crew a peg leg.Originally Posted by Rafici

I came from an Ork background. I wanted something different then a swarm army. So i went like the complete polar opposite.
n00b Ork and DE player.
