Welcome to Librarium Online!
Played a game today vs necrons. Guy puts most of his army on the far side and deepstrikes 2 monoliths into my side. I hit him with 12 lance shots and 2 haywire blasters. Got nothing. Then I assaulted each one with a haywire grenade wych squad. 2 monoliths became 2 terrain features.
The rest was cake.
gj man thats luck for you and monoliths. haywires are great but then again your lances do nothing to monoliths so you had a lot better chances with the wytches
so was he swearing at HWG by the time he saw what those do?
The final answer as in, you got lucky?
12 Lances will do virtually nothing to a monolith, even if one did glance it at best you can immobilise it - any other results the monolith doesn't care about. Haywire grenades/blasters still won't do anything of note unless they penetrate which isn't an easy task, the haywire blasters hit more often but you are less likely to have as many as the grenades, who will hit less.
Even then you still need to roll a 6 followed by a 5/6 to destroy a monolith, even with 10 wyches the odds aren't looking great.
"On a hunch, I melted them down and inhaled the fumes and read the dark eldar codex again, AND FOUND A BUNCH OF NEW RULES HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER WORDS..." [Gardeth on modelling & interpreting the DE Codex]
He moved combat speed. Needed a 4 followed by 6 followed by 5-6. Monolith 1 I hit 5 got 1 6, wrecked. Monolith 2 I hit 6 got 2 pens wrecked and immobilized.
you're just lucky you didn't "destroy" it. When you do that on vehicles, you tend to lose 4+ wyches from any decent sized squad. THAT is the great HWG equalizer.
I'll sacrifice 48 points of wyches for a monolith any day. Hell, he can have all 10 for it.Originally Posted by abbazabba1920
I don't think that's a rule in 5th edition anymore, but I don't have the book near me right now.
