The title of this thread says it all for the most part.
Given the Duke's "Serpents Venom" rule, I think that maybe the best unit for the Duke to accompany is Trueborn.
I guess I have a couple questions, would others agree that trueborn are best used with the Duke? The second question is how should this unit be used. I wonder if a larger unit with shardcarbines and cannons should be used to take full advantage of 3+ poisoned weaponry, or if it should be a 4 man squad with 2 cannons and 2 carbines in a venom to save on points?
20 Kabalite Warriors with 2 Splintercannons seems to work just fine. They can camp an objective quite nicely and Duke gives them a little "oomph" in case they get assaulted. If you fear assault, adding a Sybarite with Agoniser to the group would be a good idea.
I like the Duke in a 4 man trueborn squad with 2 cannons and 2 carbines in a venom. You can also go with more carbines in a raider, but it puts a whole lot of points in one unit (that's inside an armor 10 open topped vehicle). Or you could do 2 cannons, no carbines, and splinter racks for the twin linked (rifles with 3+ reroll to hit and 3+ to wound). I've seen the 20 warriors thing done, wasn't that impressed with it, though if you also add a haemy it can be pretty damn tough.
The enemy's gate is down
I usually run a wych cult, so the Duke usually just rides with some wyches. When i get to higher point games, i like to run him in a squad of 4 trueborn with 2 splintercannons in a venom with two splinter cannons. I've found that usually enough splinter shots for me, especially if I don't need to move to maximize the shooting potential of the cannons and rifles.
That 20 Warriors with 2 Splinter Cannons idea is pretty good.
