i play and Alatoic army and i bought some warps spiders and swooping hawks but i only got room for 1. iono if i should take out SW for the WS but iono. they are about the same points. they both have the suprise factor, but what i would like to no mainly is that if you move 12" with the warp spiders then warp D3 can you still attack, then after can u fall back D2. swooping hawks can move 12 and assult 6 right? iono which is better.
OK some people like warp spiders alot, personnaly I dont and I never field them.
The only effective use of hawks is as an "Exarch delivery system" i.e. you take a unit of 5, then make one an exarch, give him web of skulls, shuriken pistol and sustained assult and charge them in. This is quite unfluffy and powergame like, but it is the only effective use.
On the whole then, despite the fact I often use hawks and never use spiders, I think ti is commonly accpted that spiders are more effectie so if you have aspirations about winning take the spiders

ugg people keep asking stupid questions liek this, they are totally different units with 2 compeletely different functions. but if i had the points and had too take one or the other, spiders for sure, their sooo great

exactly. they have two different roles and cant be compared. this is true for about every eldar unit. but i personally LOVE LOVe spiders. You move 12, fire 20 str 6 shots at anything (infantry, light vehicles) and then pop back 2d6 in the assult. hit and run. harassing units, widdleing them down for your other units to finish off, usually guardians for me.
no u cant assult. even if u move 12 and fire, u cant assult because theyahve rapid fire weapons. so the tooled up exarch with surpirse assult and withdrawl is pointless now cuz u cant fire your death spinners then assult and really just rip open a unit. but i just take a unit of 10 spiders. no exarch and just go kill stuff (Y)

The Exarch is a complete waste os points now. Due to the new rules they can't fire their rapid fire weapons then charge (The Exarchs powers are therefore useless) and you can always Rapid Fire, so that makes his gun upgrade useless too, and now that you can't make much use of his powers, powerblades aren't very useful either!how can anyone resist warp spiders? And their mean exarchs!

Warp spiders not only have great guns, they also havea high armour save, meaning they are pretty good at living (but this usually won't matter 'cos of the second jump). Eve a small squad can do a lot of damage whilst being quite survivable.
Swoopong hawks dont seem to be that bad to me, they have a single ordinance strength 5 shot and lasblasters aren't all that bad.... against rubbish infantry. for 1 point more though, i'd take warp spiders because they're very good at killing most stuff.

Ok, well personally I would go for spyders, but I definetly agree with oblivion here in that they are 2 totaly different units(even though IMOP swooping hawks r completely useless) and you should probably decide what role you want them to play before you ask this question.
But the Exarch has an assault weapon if you upgrade it to an additional Death Spinner, cant you just fire his weapon and then assult. It may not be a rain of death but its an additionall attack before you assault, no?
Swooping hawks have those powerful grenade packs, and the Exarch has that insane Sustained Assult skill, but they are pretty weak against almost anything...
In short, use Warp Spiders for High Armored Battles and Swooping hawks for lower ones.
