This week's Unit of the Week is on Gargoyles.
Who fields them? If you do, how do you do it?
I'll usually field a unit of 20 gargoyles with Toxin and Glands supported by a Winged Tyrant. On the charge they pack a mean punch. They do get targeted down very quickly though and I keep them at home against gunline armies.
Armies: Dark Elves, Black Templars, Tyranids, Iron Warriors, Imperial Guard.
Same for me, except it's usually my tyrant that cops all the firepower. That means that I can pack a nasty double punch with my Gargoyles -- soften them up with Fleshborers then finish them off in assault. Pretty nasty against campers.Originally Posted by Scorp
I have had great experience running a brood of 30 with Toxin and Glands. It makes them about on par with Hormagaunts in CC, they can shoot on their way in, and they provide cover to all my other units. If my enemy want to shoot at them with Bolters thats fine, I give them FNP from a Tervigon. They are able to advance in front of my main force to slow down enemy infantry and even vehicles as they are able to glance most of them, and even a vehicle not being able to shoot for a turn is well worth it to save my other creatures. They do great to tie up DeathStar units and even things like Wraith Lords.
I've run them as a screen in front of Shrike who are in turn a screen for either a Harpy or Flyrant. I run 16-20 depending on points availability, and run them naked. It's a great flight coming in. Sure it attracts a lot of fire, but that frees up the footsloggers who are going to ultimately do the real damage to the main body of the enemy.
