Just like the question says, I have no idea on what his tactics are, no clue whatsoever but the model look pretty damn cool.
I thought I was smart, but apparently people don't like to take advice from beggars...
The Avatar is really only truely effective if you are doing an MC list or choose not to go mech. His 12" range making everything fearless helps in getting them across the board with out fleeing but thats about it. He is really deadly in CC but he can be cut down quite easily so if you are going to field him take a couple of wraithlords as well to help split that antitank fire.
He is good for Any list you want to use.
Basically you treat him as his own unit, he can hold an objective, fight off against most units in combat without moving, and he can fight Dreadnaughts. For 155 points this guy is a steal in any list, even extreme mech lists. Just run him behind your warwalker/waveserpant wall and have him attack anything that gets close, or Drop him off at somones objective while the rest of your army is going for the others. Plus he is only one kill point, is quite able to kill a tank and a unit and make his points back.
Oh yeah and he is ****ing Badass
For the same points you can have Yriel, and he's as badass as the Avatar and you can actually conceal him with other squads and inside a tank. Yriel can cause as much damage as the Avatar the only difference is that Yriel is slightly easier to kill in CC but the likely hood of him actually surviving to get into CC is much higher than that of the avatar.
I found that a good tactic is to keep him in reserve. This way when he comes on the table there are only a few things that could hurt him given that you would have neutralize enemies tanks etc.
I know that he won't go very far but it's just perfect to sit on an objective and contest it or make those Guardians camping nearby Fearless.
