Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok so long story short I find myself with 10 brand spanking new factory sealed Destroyer boxes that I was planning on doing for the new dex however after reading through the various posts here and looking through the dex myself it really seems like Destroyers just aren't what they used to be, especially with the ultra pumped wraiths also being in the same section. So my question is am I best just trading them all in for something more useful now, (any and all suggestions welcome), or holding off for the new 40K next year and hope that 'Relentless' gets the expected boost. Even then i'm not convinced they will be worth it.
I also appreciate that looking at things on paper and playing with them are two totally different things so was wondering if anyone had actually used them yet with the new dex? I don't know maybe I just missed something and they have perfect synergy with the new Praetorian's, (I mean something has to right)?
Alternatively I could trade 5 and keep 5, you never know they might get such a large amount of bad press that opponents decide to ignore them completely for a game......ummmm....come to think of it I think the new wraiths are appalling and won't be taking 2 units of 6 of those at all and if i do you should just ignore them
Any advice will be greatly welcome.
I've used 2 units of 4, they were pretty good. It's not that they are a bad choice, viewed in a vacuum, it's just that you compare them to Wraiths and Scarabs and they are the worst choice of the three. Still, I don't have any substantial AP3 firepower (mainly stuff like Eldritch Lances and Scarabs kill vehicles for me) so they're more useful.

It's not that destroyers are bad now, just different. People can get very protective of the status quo. Give them a try yourself before dismissing them.
Thanks guys that's really useful. To be honest although I like to win games as much as the next person as far as gaming is concerned I like a little bit of variety in my list, (not one for multi spam lists). Think what I will probably do is make 5 of them up and try converting 2 of them to heavy destroyers then save the rest of them until I have tried them out in a few games, I mean they still look cool so why wouldn't I wan't at least one unit in my collection Worst case scenario I end up trading the others in when the second wave comes out.
i like them -i run a unit of 5 with 2 of em heavies, i usually gut a marine unit per turn and its pretty easy to get a shot off at side or rear all in all a nice alternative if you hate wraith models.
I have been using a group of 4 Destroyers in my last games and they do very well. I keep them a bit back and when opponent disembarks they jump to the flank, denying opponent the use of cover and shoot them down. A single squad can gut a MSU size marine (or GK) squad in one turn of shooting.

Thanks for your experiences guys really helps. I decided to glue 5 of them together including 2 of them converted to Heavy. Will keep the rest for now and see how that goes.
I use to run two units of 5 destroyers and 2 heavies. I got the models so I'm going to try two groups of 5 with one upgraded to a heavy. Want to see what happens. Will let you know how it goes.
