Welcome to Librarium Online!
I want to love this skimmer but I'm having a problem with it. When it's stationary its gun rocks. As soon as the vehicle moves the gun becomes an Autocannon with a blast template. Just think about that. Almost 200 points for a moving Autocannon with a blast template. Oh and Gauss Flayer arrays. One Weapon Destroyed result makes it a big waste of time. Its like a Space Marine Vindicator except you can't hide it as well.
Our heavy support has got so many cool things in it that should take up the slots (Doom Scythes and Spyders for starters) that I'm not seeing its place in the army. Yes the big blast is awesome but its just too much of a big immobile target to be worth it.
Am I missing something?
How useful it is is going to depend on the rest of your list. It has 13 front and side armor with a 72" gun making proper placement of it important and making it a lot more survivable than a Vindicator with it's 24" gun. I don't like the C'tan much, but I'm thinking about trying a C'tan with Grand Illusion and Writhing Worldscape. Place it in the corner as far away from the enemy's advancing forces as possible and with a couple tremorstaves the Doomsday ark should get 3-4 turns of unharrassed shots.
yeah i wouldn't move it at all, i'd set up at the back in some difficult terrain and shoot from there. if it moves, its doomsday cannon isn't much better than the twinlinked telsa destructor on an annihilation barge. If it stays still, its range should let you make fairly good use of it before its inevitable demise
Its just unfortunate that the counters to it (auto-cannons & missles) have 48in range meaning it'll most likely still be in range :/
It is however good in a 2-solar pulse list which can protect it long enough to make it's points back.
Ye Old Necrons (R.I.P.) (7000pts) W52 D5 L9
New Crons!!! (5000pts) W1 D1 L1
Blood Angels (2500pts) W4 D0 L1
Just take Imotekh or a few Solar Pulses. Set it up on the back and blaze away. That way you can clear Night Fighting on your turn or force it on your opponents turn. Done right, you should be able to shoot just about everything on the table without having to move while he either has to ignore them, advance on them our waste shooting on them.
Can you PIVOT and that doesn't count as moving, right? Just want to make sure I can get my S9 shot if I need to turn him. Torn on D arks or D scythes.

Used my Doomsday Ark earlier today and it did a pretty good job even though i only got to fire the main gun once.
I'd also be interested to hear how much firepower your opponent directed at it.
Currently I'm thinking the main use for the Arc is to be a "look at the silly monkey" model. While your opponent is shooting at the Arc, trying to kill its gun then he's not shooting at your Monolith or your Praetorians (for example).
Still that's an expensive monkey...
I don't like the Doomsday, and much perfer the anni barges.
this topic did make me consider running 3 archs with 2-3 stalkers for twin linked blast(reroll scatter i think). Combined with Imotek and solar pulses you should be able to decimate anything your opponet for 2-3 turns. Problem is your dropping 900 points in 5 models not counting your HQ choices. Not to mention the abudance of cover saves, but it could be a fun list to test out.
