Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was gifted a Barge and an Ark for Christmas, and while I'm saving up to buy a set of paints to begin the pre-assembly painting of my bitz still on the sprue, I am looking at the models and construction guides, thinking about how I'm going to assemble them. More accurately, I am thinking about how they are going to fit in my battle box for transportation! I don't like transporting models outside of the box, and by all accounts it looks like the Ghost Ark is going to occupy a good 25-33% of the space!!
I was wondering, since I haven't broken apart the sprues yet and played around with assembly, how well do the spines fit together? Would it be possible for me to magnetize each set of spines, in order to break down and reassemble the model for easier transportation? Or would the connections be too weak that the model might fall apart during play, or the Gauss Arrays require gluing to be stable?
If I can break apart the spines, that'd be fantastic! Not only could I lay the pieces of the Ark flat in my carrying case (leaving only the stern / pilots throne to require any extensive foam cutting to fit), but it would also mean it would be easier to swap between the Ghost and Doomsday modes of the kit.
Thanks in advance ^-^

Having built and painted one Ghost Ark myself I can say that the spines fit together very well, but problem lies in the Necron occupants. Each of the six ribs is a very good fit and interchangable with each other and the gauss arks fit between them without using any glue at all (I didn't use glue in mine). However, the Warriors are fitted in small spots between two ribs and the connection is very flimpsy requiring you to glue them to place very carefully to avoid them falling out. If you leave the Warriors out altogether then it should be easy to keep the 6 ribs, stern, bow and 10 gauss arks as separate pieces and assemble before use. Might not even need magnets for it, to be honest.
One more tip: Assemble AND paint it in pieces. Each of 6 ribs, 10 gauss arks, 10 warriors, stern and bow need to be painted separately before assembly.

Awesome ^-^ I was thinking about omitting the Warriors altogether. Part of the plan for magnetizing the ribs was to somehow (???) fit a few actual Warrior models in the Ark. I don't know if it will provide the effect I'm looking for, but from the sound of it I can easily go back and pin the damaged Warriors back in.
