Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am a new member (of about 4 minutes I should say) and would like to have some Army help. I am wanting to make a 1500 Point Splittable Army (into two distinct armies) so that if I were to play with some friends, (who haven't yet begun to play) I could just pull out my army and take the army and separate it. I am fine with up to 2000 points in the army, but I would prefer something closer to 1500. I myself am just starting out and would like to see what the hobby is all about. I have read many forums on here (none of which touched on this subject) and would like to start one. I would like for there to be a close combat army and a range shooting army in the larger one, so there is some variety in the skirmishes. Needless to say, I would like to have this army be the Tyranids.
Thank you all for your help,
Welcome to the forum!
Firstly, before I start off, I'd like you to read this thread - http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...-tyranids.html - I wrote a post in there with pretty much all the info you need to get started. You reading this saves a lot of time for me here.
Now there is one problem with your idea - any army that isn't there to serve as sheep to slaughter for the enemy cannot be split in two, the main reason being that there is an aspect of ranged firepower in every list you build (the Elites section). Most Tyranid lists have around 1/3 shooting (depending on list size) and 2/3 assault. It can also vary up to being half and half. As helpful as this might be, you cannot split a list cleanly in half (shooting and assault) - 95% of the time you only have one HQ in a 1500 point match, and you cannot split him in half. Also, arguably all troops choices (bar Tervigon) should be ultimately used for assault, in every competitive list. Every Elites choice you make should be ranged anti-tank. The Fast Attack section is mostly neglected and Heavy Support can take the form of ranged and assault.
Basically, it's impractical.
Thanks for the thread. That was really helpful. Is there any army that this could be done with? I just like the way the Tyranids look so I figured I would see if it would work.
I wouldn't get too hopeful, but Orks and Blood Angels are probably the two that would best fit what you require.Originally Posted by TooInenious
