Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am in the middle of painting my Tau but suddenly I am stuck. I have finished a couple of testers just to try for a feel of what I want. I went with a Tan and Purple look. I am however thinking maybe I should have done the armour purple and the cloth tan. Seeing the purple the way it sits it kind of gives its own highlight/camo pattern. Should I highlight it at all? The tan colour looks good to me and originally I had no intention of hightlighting it what so ever, but now I wonder if I should. Feedback is what I am looking for, drop your honest opinions. Remember these are test models so thats why they look rough haha.

I would hold back on swapping the color scheme- I love the tan armor! And keep going with that panel line effect, it looks great.
The purple, though, seems too brigh. I can see your point about the highlight/camo pattern, and I think that could make for a good cloth effect if you used more/a heavier wash. I bet some Badab Black and a lighter purple highlight would do the cloth justice.

I'd stick with purple as a secondary color, not primary. I also agree that the purple is probably too intense. I'd recommend going with a dark blue and drybrush/highlight with the purple you're using now. Using the appropriate citadel foundation paints before using these other colors will make them pop a bit more too. In addition, it looks like you're priming with white, which may not be the best choice considering your color scheme. Black might be better, and gaps in painting wont show up as much.
