So I've been tinkering with the deathstar squad. I want to use it with the standard ork horde ist with a litle added cybork wherte appropriate (it adds up) ...
So - Ghaz, Doc, Snikrot 12 kommandos ( with cybork) at 1850
Now this is a lot of points. To tie up close to 700 points in HQs and one elite is pretty extreme.
One squad can be blocked or locked up
Relies on decent reserve roll
Grotsnik and crew must go after closest target
Ghaz is SaP
Difficult to get into combat
Relatively small mob for Orks (15 bodies)
Can devastate the backfield.
Ghaz in your face is deadly and he does add his waagh to boot. He can always go off on his own.
Move thru cover means I can roll 3D3 at least
Not a lot of squads or vehicles can handle them
They are a major distraction
Cybork and saves makes them a lot more durable
PKs and Burnas are just good when that close up
I'm backing this up with ninety boys( nine rokkitts, three PK), three koptas with TL Rokkitts and buzzsaws (cybork and a squad of covering grots (cybork w/ grabba stikks). So I'm fielding 130 models.
So anyone ever use anything like this and what were your results? What expectations are realistic? What armies do I need to fear?
According to the FAQ you can have 16 kommandos + Snikrot. I have used this several times now and the mad doc is a must of you want them to stick around for more than 1 combat. This comes out to 515pts for a unit with a boat load of attacks +5 inv sv, FNP and fearless. The one downside is grotsniks rage rule but this is largely negated because you should be able to come on the board close to your intended target. If you add Thraka to this unit it only gets better. Using just Grotsnik I killed 2 defilers and 2 units of deamons.
