havent been playing 40k for some years now and was thinking bout getting back in. saw the new DE models and thought they were pretty cool. was wondering how they held up in games. before i quit GW had, at least from what i could see started balancing out some of the armies. had played with the newer eldar codex a fiew times and was suprised to see that they werent some broke star cannnon spam but a more flexible but perhaps less good, more rounded army. i guess what my question is, the new DE codex one of thoes armies that is behind the power curve or is it at least as good as its competition.
The new DE codex is generally looked upon as one of the most balanced codexes around. It's got really, really good internal balancing - meaning there's really no bad unit, and few overpowered units. It's all about building a good list with the choices we have. You can play very competitively with them, if you wish, but if competition isn't your cup of tea you can just build an army you find cool and it should work out OK in a friendly gaming environment. The new army also has some amazingly good looking models - so if you like the looks of them, I'd say go for it!
Also, welcome to the forum, and (hopefully) the true kin!
