Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I have a questions about warlock and I can't find a post anywhere that answer this questions.
Frist. Why do people take them. As far as I can see they Are not that good. Tho I'm probaly missing somthing.
After that I'm kinda confuesd. Do they all need to go together with the farseerer or can they go with any unit they want?
Warlocks are an amzing character for a few reasons. The most common is with guardian groups.
Reason 1: Conceal
Imagine you have 20 guardians martching down the field. Someone shoots a pathetic atr 4 apr 5 at you. Well all of a sudden each wound you have a dead 8 points! Well conceal gives them a 5+ cover save from shooting! So you get a 5+ armor save and a 5+ cover so the ap of the weapon no longer matters. It adds a lot to the survivabilty of the group
Reason 2: Witch blade/singing spear
This is a great weapon to have in combat. Warlocks have good WS to begin with so you usally hit on 3+/4+ and then you ALWAYS wound on 2+! That means if you hit you usally get a wound. Also it acts like a power fist execpt x3 strengh against armor! Your little warlock can get caught in combat an all of a sudden he hit's at str 9 which means walkers and dreads get killed with his 2 attacks.
Reason 3: 4+ Inv save
This is the thing I call take it for the team. If your going to lose someone inportant in the unit you can sorta sac him. Say your in a unit and all you have left is a char and a warlock, you can put the shot on the warlock and he will get a 4+ invul save instead of just dying. It does not happen to much but it's handy.
Reason 4: Enchance
+1 Ini and + 1 WS! All of a sudden your crappy guys are now WS 5 and hit on 3+ instead of 4+!
They can be used as HQ in a few units so check your codex to see which ones. I always put them with guardians when I take them and a warlock on a bike is just mean! I used to run a 5 man Warlock tank hunting squad.
5x Warlocks W/ Singing spears on Bikes with Enchance for 255 points. Thats 5 guys that can shoot str 9 shots at 12 inch range and wound on a 2+ vs toughness guys and all have a 3+ save with a 4+ inv, can move 12 a turn, can turbo boost, and have WS 5 and ini 5. Say you see a wrathlord, move close, shoot, you now have 5 2+ wound shots, then assault, you now have 15 WS 5/ini 5 2+ wound hits and 4+ inv saves against his weapons. Dreads have no chance and tanks don't either. You can acutally take out armor 14 guys with a little finess! Go Warlocks!

Warlocks are great! I am a firm believer that a group of them do need a farseer to utilise their strengths to the fullest! I mean a 4++ with rerolls is better than a 3+ power armours save, not quite as good as termie armour against normal normal basic weaponry but are extrememly durable against meltas, power weapons, fists and other AP1/AP2 weaponry that would normally kill a termie. Pretty durable unit, expensive though especially when you include a farseer in the mix or add bikes.
As additions to guardian units and bike squads they are excellent. Boosting the squads survivability, or hindering your opponent. Having WS4, I5 guardians is great! THey strike before marines and most other units and deny marines the 3+ to hit in CC. Also handy for cracking open transports. More than once an opponet underestimated a guardian squad and hid in their transport only for me to surround the tank and bust it open with my warlock and wipe out the squad because they couldn't disembark. My warlock on my guardian squad even managed to do what my fire dragons failed to do, kill a landraider! They are versatile guys...if only they had a power weapon! Sighs....
I play Ulthwe, so I always have a seer's council in a wave serpent. In a 1.5k list my unit has a farseer with fortune & doom, 2 warlocks with enhance, 2 with embolden, 2 with no powers and is joined by an autarch with mandiblasters, a power weapon and fusion gun. This turns into a solid cc and anti-tank unit.
Why would you waste giving 2 Warlocks Embolden and 2 Warlocks Enhance? The powers don't stack so it's just points going nowhere on the second Warlocks.

Because warlocks die and you have to distribute wounds evenly. This means you can't guarantee that the one you want will survive.
thanks very much for the advice. i guess ill be running a few warlocks now. Ive got 4 two with spears. maybe what ill do is put them with a group of striking scorpions and give them embolden or something
