I bought my most regular opponent a drop pod for his birthday and this guy is really making me wish I hadn't, his plan is to drop his pod behind one of my serpents then provided he can wreck it, my guys will not be able to disembark because he has units within 1" of the access point, leading to the insta death of all my dudes. What can I do about this? I don't have a rulebook to hand so can't check if it is legal.
Actually in that case the models inside would just perform an 'Emergency Disembark' and can be placed anywhere within 2" of the hull. You need to completely surround an enemy vehicle and then wreck it (not explode it) in order to auto-kill everyone inside.
The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed
Also let him know that if the Drop Pod scatters off the table, it does not reduce the scatter to stay on, it suffers a Deep Strike mishap and needs to roll on the mishap table. So if this is coming on in turn 1 behind your Waveserpent he's probably really close to the board edge.
A drop pod I believe is 3 inches wide so he needs at least 5 inches clearance in order to safely drop it, not including the distance for the squad inside to disembark. If you use hybrid lists then setting up a large unit of foot troops to make him back away is not a bad idea. I did this when one of my regular opponets would do drop pod heavy armies. Then I went into reserve armies, he would simply have to drop pod while I had nothing on the field, meaning I could react to his movements as I came into play. This tactic does require the presence of at least 1 Autarch. Needless to say, he very quickly stopped overusing drop pods, in fact they are a very rare sight these days.
thanks guys that really helps
