I was wondering what people thought about the haemonculus ancient?
Have people used him and if so what sort of load outs have they used. And for what purpose are they using them?
I guess basically are they worry it or are you better off with a basic haemonculus.
I tend to run an Ancient with a squad of grotesques. As for the loadout, I go with an agoniser, ccw, liquifier, and shattershard. That build has been betty successful for me, I tend to hit high priority units with the ancient and his grot squad and if there is a beef cake character in the unit I will shatter him before charging in. As for the extra points I would say depends on what your using him for. If he is just going to be another portal jockey then no but if close combat is your plan then the ancient is a lot better thanks to his higher stats.
There are my two cents. Hope it helped
I've made a couple lists with an Ancient but I am yet to play the list though.
One of the details you have to remember that for points you pay you do get bump in the stats except for strength and toughness - everything else goes up 1. That bump kind makes you want to run him/her as a close combat type character and really without a change in the wargear section or abilities the haemy is still sub par for points. I though about putting him into a squad of wyches where the hekatrix has a PGL so the Ancient can at least strike at his new initiative but then you have the problem of not having fleet. Then you tell yourself you might as well just leave him on the raider to flame things and that too seems a waste with all those bumped up stats.
Well, despite all that I still want to run one just for kicks and really see how they perform so right now in an experimental list I have him in a squad of wyches with Vect. Idea being that the wyches and Vect are going to do a nasty number on the target way before the Haemy so threat of any attacks on the Ancient (the weakest link) would be reduced. I would probably have to put a wych with nets nearby and also keep powerfists away.
Just for giggles I gave the Ancient a huskblade, soul trap and liquifier as the wyches hekatrix has the PGL so the Haemy can strike at initiative. For the most part, he is just a really expensive gimmicky assassin that can be gakked by a powerfist. Huge chunk of points that I really can not see any validity for other than making a true themed Coven list. Understand I usually give a lot of care when using less optimal choices but this one has me stumped big time.
So for me the big glaring problem is he has no armor or gadget to save him - you would think an Ancient could at least get his hands on a clone field or something but I guess they do not rank high enough for that privilege.
"On a hunch, I melted them down and inhaled the fumes and read the dark eldar codex again, AND FOUND A BUNCH OF NEW RULES HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER WORDS..." [Gardeth on modelling & interpreting the DE Codex]
I'll usually tae an Ancient in bigger games (2250pts and above), Load outs either a flesh gauntlet and casket, dark gate or shattershard(I have 3 different models made up ), Take a unit of trueborn with carbines and drachon with agoniser and blast pistol or chuck him in with some wyches or even a bunch of wracks (I don't use grotesques because I can't bring myself to spend $33 a model on a unit that I need atleast 3 of
And @Kiwi : he starts with a pain token so he has Feel no Pain HAHA
Can never bring myself to bring an ancient. Generally, when I lose a Haemonculus, an ancient would have been just as dead in the same situation, whether its getting hit with a fist, a missile, or getting gunned down after getting shot out of his transport.
if the ancient gave more to the squad then just the LD. and slightly better CC then id be all over him (like an extra pain token or T5)
I only run the ancient when I want more CC power in the squad, meaning he's with grotesques, wracks, or something similar. Otherwise, my haemonculi are walking pain tokens with liquifier guns. I like him, especially the parts with more WS and wounds. Is it worth the cost? Debatable.
When I run him, it's with a venom blade, liquifier gun, and a crucible of malediction. You can ignore the last one if it's not your cup of tea, but I have an irrational fetish for it.
