Has any1 had any experience with these
They kind of seem ok for there points but with only armour 10 surley they will just get shot to bits
I mean how many 4+ saves can you make?
I am thinking about just reserving it then when it turns up using it to pop a few flyers b4 it goes down as i am sure with 2 bright lances people will want to shoot that thing out the sky
I'm just painting up a phoenix as my current project but it really has me tempted to pick up two Nightwings as an escourt.
I agree that they may not be the most durable craft but maybe the new rules for fliers hopefully in 6th will give us some respite from being wtfpwnd instantly XD
NightWings are the best AA flyer in the game. Use it to obtain air dominance and then engage tanks on the ground. They do get shot down sometimes, but that is where strategy comes in... deny it as a target, or give them more than one thing to shot at.
in a 40k game they are only skimmers, which are difficult to hide and have really low armour... in APOC atleast you have flyers/AA rules to keep them alive longer. That said, it only needs to live long enough to take out the land raider
Quick RAW I ran across as well;
As the nightwings have the Eldar Titan Holo-fields, it is my understanding that they receive the invulnerable save granted from this rule against any hit, as well as flat-out cover saves against any penetration or glance.
I asked around (local GW) about this, and most agreed.
Just wondering what your opinions would be. (Or if someone could prove/disprove this it would be greatly appreciated)
Basically it always gets a 4+ save.
I've used Nightwings a lot in Apoc and can confirm they are very useful, especially when teamed up with phoenixes. Although they are dangerous, there should always be something more dangerous hanging around in Apoc which makes them free to do pretty much whatever they like. CC focused armies have precious few options for shooting so are more likely to aim at something more dangerous or that they don't need 6s just to hit!
I have also found them very good at stripping of Titan void / power fields so that my D weapons can cause serious harm on enemy titans.
In 40k as skimmers, I can't see many situations where this will get more than 1 turn of shooting before getting blasted off the table. It's too much of a glass cannon to work without being a flyer.

The Nightwings are purly mean. I have been staring at them. They are expensive point wise but the reason is.
1: It's a flyer which means everyone needs to roll a 6 to hit it. So expect it to take a lot of shots to finally hit it. (Not many people take the AA upgrade it's 50% more points for the weapon)
2: It's got a 4+ invul save against any hit so you then have a 50% chance to ignore the hit
3: It's fast and can easily stay out of range of the enemy while hitting them with it's own shots.
4: It looks so cool!
