Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well thank you all for all of the help. I finally got a play a game with my new army. The person I was playing wanted to do 2k so I proxied a few things. I did not know his army had won 4 tournaments even though I told him I had never played nids before. It was also the first time ever playing demons which made it even more interesting. He had no tanks and 3 demon princes at 250 points each.
We ended up playing an objective based game. I put one on my side and he put one on his. His WHOLE army was deepstrike and shooty. Each round he would do tons of no armor saved shooting wounds and flamer shots. He had 3 of the chariots and flamers and such. It was really tough. I held the objective until the last round. We had to roll to see if we went another round. We ended up and thats what won him the game. It would have been a draw if it had ended.
Units I liked:
I tried a Trannofex and wow! This thing was mean and could take a hit. Every one of his guys was eternal warriors though so I could not insta-gib and the str 10 cannon was worthless. He even got in to close combat and made his points. I will take one every game! I AM IN LOVE!
Shootie Tyrant! I gave him the twin linked devourers with brainworms and he just ripped things up. He ended up biting the dust but not before taking out 2 demon princes and 2 flamers totaling about 600 points. The unit was 3x Guard and him and he just ripped things up at ranged and close combat! BOOYA
Hive Guard were fun. I just sat back but had to be careful. I did not know they had only 24" range so they took a turn or two to get in to range. I never thought nids were so slow on the battlefield.
Units I hated:
I did not like the Tervigon at all. He was weak in combat and shooting. The only good thing about him was I spit out 30 Termagaunts with each of them. One round I rolled a 4-5-6 which was awesome. I just kept throwing Termagaunts at his guys until they finally overwhelmed them.
I hated the Termagaunts. They had bad armor saves, I could not hit the broad side of a barn, and they could not wound anything. I do not think I will be taking Tervagons again or Termagaunts unless I was using them wrong. The best thing they did was a few wounds with shooting. By the way I was told they FAQ'ed counter attack and they don't get the Adrenal glands bonus when charged.
Units that were ok
I had a unit of 15 Genesteelers with a Broodlord and Adenal Glands. They ripped up a demon lord in combat without him getting an attack. The problem was they dropped to shooting to quickly. His whole army was shooty so he just deepstuck 3 units around them and flamered. When I finally charged the demon only 6 and the lord were left yet they still murdered his guy without thinking twice. I would like to try them more.
I tried a Tygon Prime and I did not get to really do much with him. He ended up in the middle just out of range of shooting. When I finally shot I took out a 100 point demon chariot but the demon hounds tore him a new one. I have mixed feeling on him and I may want to test more

So anyone have any hints for me? I would love some feedback on what I should do with the units.
This guy sounds like the kind of asshole that spends his life in a cave thinking up ways to pound new players of this game into dust with his over-priced pieces of plastic, resin and metal.
The first thing I would do is question him as to why he would bring a tournament winning list against a totally new player, especially seeing as that player plays Tyranids! Tyranids are mediocre enough already without having to be taken on against a massively over-powered list.
Although, it seems like you still managed to do reasonably well. Your pointers are reasonably accurate as well.
The Tyrannofex is a god. I used to be a massive two Trygons and a podding Carnifex fan, but when I tried this guy out that changed it to one of each. He is just incredible, against ALL armies. The Trygon is a bit iffy, sometimes is does spectacularly well but it can be a spectacular waste of points as well. Podding Carnifexes are pretty damn powerful as well.
Some things I would like to point out:
- Use cluster spines with the Tyrannofex (and the Tervigons) instead of Stinger Salvo - they're just generally better.
- Remember that the Tervigon is not a combat creature - she is a support creature. You use her to spawn free troops and then use her to buff them when they get into CC, and buff their toughness. You should never expect her shooting attack to actually do anything, and she is actually not that bad in CC - especially against MEQ armies.
- Termagants are generally weak, yes. But that's what the Catalyst is for - it gives them FNP, and makes them quite tough.
- ALWAYS have Paroxysm and Leech Essence as your Psychic Powers for your Hive Tyrant. They just work so well.
- Try your Genes with Toxin Sacs next time and see how they fare - your Initiative is already fairly high, so TS generally work better. The only downside is that this isn't especially good if you have a Broodlord.
- Termagant shooting is pathetic. But it just takes experience to deduce whether it would be better for you to run in a turn or shoot the enemy.
- Why would you think anything gets the Adrenal Gland bonus when charged? AG just gives the model Furious Charge. Furious Charge only works... well, on the charge.
- What do you mean they FAQ-ed Counter Attack? Link and page reference please?
- One of the Hive Guard broods should be split. This will give you more anti-tank coverage.
- You seriously don't need three Tyrant Guard. Two will do just fine. If you get rid of one then you can afford to buff your Termagant broods to 28 and 27. This will make your list 2001 points.I hope you aren't against such a douchebag of an opponent again.
From the Space Wolves FAQ:
Q. Picture this: My Grey Hunters unit including Ragnar
Blackmane is assaulted and makes a successful
Leadership test to Counter-attack. Do they then benefit
from his Furious Charge special rule (+1 S and +1 I)?
Also, can the original assaulter then deploy defensive
grenades to rob the Space Wolves of their Counterattack
A. The Counter-attack special rule only confers the +1
assault bonus and no other advantages normally
associated with assaulting. Therefore Ragnar’s unit does
not benefit from Furious Charge. Also, we think it is a
bit rich for an assaulting unit to get the bonus for
attacking and defending, so no, defensive grenades
cannot be used to negate the bonus attack from
•ALWAYS have Paroxysm and Leech Essence as your Psychic Powers for your Hive Tyrant. They just work so well.
I acutally dropped his wolves down to 1 WS which was great. It helped my Termagaunts survive longer.
•Why would you think anything gets the Adrenal Gland bonus when charged? AG just gives the model Furious Charge. Furious Charge only works... well, on the charge.
This is me just being new and reading things incorrectly.
•One of the Hive Guard broods should be split. This will give you more anti-tank coverage.
I was running 2 and 2 which was good. I think it did a good job giving 4 shots which averaged to a pen against a 12 armor
Ohhh also buying a Tyranofex! So sexy!
It's a nice benefit. My dice rolled pretty bad execpt! Thanks to you! I used the 12 shots on my Tyrant and wounded 11 wounds on his demon lord! It rocked! 250 points down in 1 shot!
Anyone else got tips? I so would love to run 2x Tyranofexs in 1500! :-D Ummm sexy Tyranofex.
