Hi, I am looking at buying an army for DE and actually never opened their codex up till yesterday. I've played 40K on and off so I know the rules and I have played several other armies over time but now am wanting to play DE. I was thinking of doing Hellion as my core with Baron as my HQ. I like that they can move a great deal and on the charge have 3 attacks with 4WS 4S as well as having a feel no pain if I get a role of 6 in the beggining or if they kill a unit. Was thinking maybe them as well as carrying another troop choice for objectives and to help out either way and transporting with venoms for their firepower and then have ravagers for anti-tank. My brother, friend and I are all at 1000 points that we are looking at and want to do team tournaments and play test with each other till the next one. So I was wondering if Hellions are good and can be competitive with the right support from afar. I really want this army to be all competitive and not just for the fun only. Looking to win a tournament or two lol. Thanks
A Baron based army list can be competitive. But as with any list, it depends on the synergy of all the other units. Take a look through the army list section for ideas, and post up a potential 1000pts list. You will get more constructive feedback if we know what you are planning overall.
(WH40K) Dark Eldar - (12,000pts) Sisters of Battle - (5000pts) Dark Angels -(3500pts) (WHFB) Dark Elves - (10,000pts) Beastmen - (5000pts) Empire - (3000pts) Wood Elves - (1500pts)
I have an idea that i was looking into working on until i lost my jobs and couldn't afford it anymore but the baron allows you to take hellions as troops now i need clarification but does this mean they could then be taken as scoring units? Hellions are very flexible and hit hard so you don't have a problem there but if they can be scoring why not make a whole army of hellions? yes it will be expensive but it'll look awesome and with the right tactics could win you a fair few games
helions taken as troops are scoring.
If you're looking at an army with Hellions, I'd suggest running a blended WWP list with no more than 1-2 big squads of Hellions, depending on the size of the list. You'll want Wyches or Wracks to tarpit for your other Troops choices.

However in the new book, Hellions and Reavers are street gangs who just happen to use combat drugs, I reckon a gang would be more likely to have Haemonculus allies than Kabal or Wych Cult.

The Baron rules all the Hellion gangs. They're pretty much his private army. His reach stretches far beyond the slums and underworld, right into the heart of Commoragh. I see no reason why wych cults wouldn't want to join him for realspace raids.
The DE fluff is very permissive. Realspace raids are one of the highlights of DE life so any of the self-serving factions would happily join a promising looking raid.
