Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just started playing 40K.. Decided to spice things up a little after playing fantasy for 5 years. ANyways. One of my friends that i'm probably going to play a lot against fields a Deathkorps of Krieg army. Basically IG with fancy rules and different artillery.
There's A LOT of models and a lot of shooting. I tried a game against him earlier today and got decimated.
A Command squad.
4 or 6 Normal guardsmen unts of 10 each with flamers and lassguns.
2 Leman russes
1 flamethrower tank
3 Small cannons.
I fielded my entire collection of models:
9 Wyches, Champion, Hydra Gauntlets, Agoniser, in a raider with flickerfield and dark lance
9 Kabalites, Blaster In raider with flickerfield and dark lance
11 Kabalites, Blaster, Splinter Cannon
6 Reavers with two cluster caltrops.
Archon with various equipment
I got destroyed. He shot me to pieces before i got the chance to do much. I dissabled the guns on his flame tank, and even though the reavers got to fly over 4 units they only managed to kill 6 models (I flopped misserably). Killed a few guys with the kabalites, but not much more.
How can i counter his list?
I have three more reaver jetbikes and 11 Wyches..
What could be a somewhat effective list against him?
Also, Scourges, how do they fare?
They are really expensive, but Jump infantry that can have 2-4 Melta weapons (Depending on how many you field) and in general decent firepower, Might be worth it..?
You need a lot more AT than you are bringing atm. A few Ravagers would help you out with all with long range fire and a few venom transports to add SC's for the troops would also help.
Your list would probably benefit from being more focused probably on Warriors w/Raiders and Ravagers in cover to deal with his long range ASAP and then bring your Archon with some Wyches in to clean through infantry. Remember to keep them in combat so the flamers are unable to target them.
With the Range IG can bring you really want to get the first turn and stun as much as you can. If you can't then you are going to want to use cover as much as possible or keep the whole list in reserve if you can.
This is just at a glance and I am sure someone who has a better understanding of IG and what kind of point limit this game has will have a good counter list or advice for you shortly.
First, do not get discouraged as the Imperial Guard is the one army we do the worst against - I think Grey Knights are up there too.
Second, it looks like you brought a knife to a gun fight. Sythus is correct in saying you have no AT (anti-tank) in your list to speak of (no, a dark lance on a raider is not an AT solution). It does look like you did get some things accomplished with what you have and that is encouraging although it didn't help you win.
So looking at what you have available it is obviously an assault based army so far and your next purchases I would suggest is getting some AT in the form of ravagers. Scourges and Reavers are both good candidates for AT work but I do not add them to the list until I have figured out what my Heavy Choices are - if there is a crunch on points, the Fast Attack slots are the victims. Some would also say that the Elite slot would be more important than the Fast Attack slots as well with the ever-so-popular Trueborn with blasters in a Venom as they can actually outperform Ravagers with the additional anti-infantry characteristics of the Venoms 2 splinter cannons.
As for troop choices, the internet suggests you lower the squad size if points are tight after taking the Trueborn. Many will take 5 warriors with a blaster and put them on either a raider or venom - the min/max spam list encourages you to take as many as possible. Me personally, like your squad sizes but that is just a preference and most likely based on experience in making a full size squad work in a game. So it looks like you will need to invest in venoms, ravages and perhaps another raider or two. Then, when you get to larger games with more experience under you belt you would explore the wonderful world of fast attack variations however what you have now is more than enough until you heavy support choices are filled.
Just my 2 cents.

Hello and welcome to the Dark kin! I would agree with what others have already said, but there's another way to do it as well. since your friend 'only' brought 3 tanks, it's quite possible to try to ignore them as long as possible and just lock his guardsmen up in close combat. but to get your troops that far you need to go with the Web Way Portal. When using WWPs you keep most of your army in reserve and let them enter from portals that you deploy on the field.
What I would do in your situation would first be to drop both of your expensive HQ, you don't really need them against his army. I would go with 1 or 2 Haemonculus with WWPs instead, load them up in the raiders together with a minimal unit of warriors, deploy the WWPs as far up the field as possible and then just hope to get lucky with the reserve rolls. The wyches need to be equipped with haywire grenades so that they can take care of the tanks when the opportunity arise and you most likely want to split your reavers up in 2 groups with 1 blaster or heat lance in each group. first priority should be to kill that flamethrower tank. the rest of your army need to engage his guardsmen ASAP. and that's the game plan.
However, this sort of list works better with bigger armies, and probably isn't the best idea for your small force, but it's something you could look into. And when you do get a bigger force, the WWP army will be a good option. The only thing you can do with your current army is to turbo-boost against his army and hope he doesn't kill your tanks, which is unlikely. You need to go into bigger games to get a fair chance! Good luck!

3 ravagers with FF is a great choice for heavies (Use them to take out anything that isn't stun locked from the scourges). You might also try 2 ravagers w FF and 1 razorwing w FF & SC. (the 4 missiles will make short work of any IG squad not in a vehicle). The razorwing can be fitted with either a DL or Dissie depending if you want to go tank hunting or infantry hunting after the missiles are shot.
Trueborn's with blasters or DL is a solid elite choice vs others
If you run a wwp list then wyches with haywire grenades is a solid anti tank approach
