Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've been playing 40k now since 4th edition and currently find myself back without an army. I’ve played Nids, Tau, DE twice, IG etc etc. I play against a group who call them selves normal gamers =) however they tend to fall more into the power gamer category. Any ways my current win to loss games are 0 wins to many losses but I don’t mind, I find more fun in painting than I do in gaming. As such I have also found that I loose interest painting many units the same and my current plan was to either paint many models from different armies and not have an army (which I think is bad) or possibly paint Eldar and thus paint different units in there original colours, which I hope would bring in different options an vary things quite well.
So my questions, are my thoughts correct and the variety of different options to paint? Can Eldar still cut it in the current game, more importantly can they cut it against power lists?
I've painted Eldar before and had a lot of success painting Iyanden, and want to make something along the line of
Wraith Guard x10
Wraith Guard x10
Storm Guardians 10
Storm Guardians 10
Shining Spears *3
It's mainly a fluffy army to start from and is a taken from a previous thought on Eldar 1 or 2 years ago. The guardians act as a cover save to the Wraith guard as they close across the board with the Wraith lords, while the Shining spears act as either a intercept squad to charge anything withered down by the Guided / doomed wraith guard or to jump in to break a squad out of combat. With the Wraith lords Snipping while also offering 2 flamer templates if anything gets too close
So what do you knowlegable people think, from a painting > Gaming point is Eldar the right choice for me?

The painting is fantastic, that Farseer puts mine to shame lol.
As far as the army list, it looks formidable, though im not a fan of Storm Guardians. The Defenders with heavy weapon and a concealed Warlock is effective for my experience, Eldrad is probably the best psyker in game, I always keep him in the lead of my army and he rarely fails. He just got a victory over the Orks last Tuesday. Never used Wraith Guard before but from what I've seen and heard and from their profile they're a durable squad. Though if you want to close the distance i say instead of 10 take 5 in a wave serpent with star and vectored engines. Shining Spears are a nasty squad, use em right and they'll be a good distraction. Wraithlords are monsters on the table, just keep them away from Las Cannons\missile launchers or else your Wraith lords won't be long lived.
The photos rubish taken on my Iphone and doesnt really do it justice but thank you for your kind words =)
It's good to know that Eldar can still cut it on the table, I'm still unsure what I shall do but what I do know is that Wraith lords Farseers, warlocks and most Eldar things at least can be painted as shiny shiny rather than war dirty models and it add the neccessary option of variation I need within an army
You have potential for foot Eldar army.
Search the Internet for such a lists, they can really kick it.
And you would include the Avatar, which can be fun to paint, and is very good at cc.
The List itself looks really fluffy and would be a blast to play not competitive but your in it for the fun. One thing I would probably recommend would be conceal on your warlocks to give you a cover save from lascannons, missle launchers, up-close meltas and plasma shots to maintain your survive ability of your Wraithguard while crossing open terrain. The down side to this list would be the cost to assemble it, wraithguard models don't come cheap, even on ebay you will quickly see the price rise. But once you gather them and give them a paint job the striking yellow of the Iyanden craftworld will really make your army stand out.
The avatar removes a slot for a farseer, which I feel is much more usefull, esspecialy when an individual squad can be equivilant of 1/4 of your army points wise.
I kind of have 20 Wraithguard, I never did anything with them and lent them to a friend so the cost is very little. I belive that the army will look really good on the table, however the unit will struggle against the people I play, such as full GK paladin squads with all the trimmings plus 3 autocannon dreads psybolt amo and psycannon spam. Or SM command bike squad with furious charge FNP and storm shield wound allocation
Last night while thinking more on what army I can make to satisfy my paint based desires I really came round to the idea of painting Eldar because of such things as blue dire avengers, green stricking scorpions, etc, the variation may actualy keep me interested in one army instead of being greatly dissapointed half way in with the monotomy of the same paint scheme over and over which has been the cause of many army sales.
The only other option was possible squads of Wraith guard in transports or even just the basic use of transports as a cover save for the wraith guard.
My only worry so far is that I would actualy like to win a game at some point, and the list posted here will be simply cut down and forced into CC where the wraith guard become less effective.
