Everyone talk about how good kroot shapers are, that they're the best sergeant upgrade out there, but they're just not, by the math!
They don't increase your leadership, the armor upgrade does that. They get an extra two attacks and two wounds, which I agree is huge, but for the same points you could buy 3 regular or 2.5 upgraded kroot, which is the same number of wounds and way more attacks. And the rest of the stat line is the same, so those extra attacks are worth just as much as the shaper's are. Plus, the shaper actually cinches the "Eater of the Dead" disadvantage tighter. You could spend more points to give him a Tau weapon, but does anyone think that's a good idea?
So, my question is why, oh why, would anyone ever get a Shaper? Right now I'm connvinced it's a trap for the less analytical player, to get him to spend points on something he won't get the return on.
Well, probably the biggest flaw in your argument is that you can't buy the armour upgrade at all without first purchasing a shaper.
That being said, I feel that the armour upgrade, shaper--pretty much everything aside from your basic Kroot warrior--is a waste of points.
Like you said.
First of all kroot aren't meant to be elite soldiers. They're just meant to keep enemy armies from getting to your front lines of fire warriors. They're supposed to die for "The Greater Good"
Kroot in general are a waste of points, the shaper really isn't that great for it's pointage and, when have you ever heard somone raving about a battle that was saved by kroot alone? Kroot are more times than not, a big dissapointment. They're just a wall of meat, and wasted points.
The only thing that is stopping you from being what you can be is what you think other people think about you.
If you could say one thing to the world, what would it be?
Wow, no, I think I disagree. The last two games I have played (note that this is out of about 4 games total, so my opinion might not be the most valuable) I was raving about how good the kroot were. I won both games quite handily, and would have done so with or without the kroot, but in both games, I would have incurred MANY more losses without the kroot there to countercharge and save a squad or two of firewarriors from the maws of various alien insectoids.
i've had squads of kroot do amazing things and i like my shapers for the LD + armour upgrade and just because its nice bulking up a regular kroot with the sprue
i've got 3 shapers, 2 with pulse rifles and 1 with a regular one

i don't gett it, why do kroot have there own army list if there so shitty??
Take my words with a grain of salt, i am not the tactical genius i think i am!
1. there not shitty
2. they get extra stuff in the list that isn't available to the tau kroot
less hate more kittens
ok listen up, kroot own, no doubt about it. Theyre cheap in points and theyre not bad in stats. For me kroot has saved my hides many times and they are the counter for the crappiness of firewarriors. Shapers should get weapons from the armory and the armor save will help.... a bit..
