Fisrtly Hi and welcome,
A lot of people reacently seem to be deciding to play eldar and posting posts like:
"I have a wraithlord, a jet bike, a warlock and 2 guardians, what else do I need?"
The resultant responses are less than helpfull, but actually there are alot of helpfull people on this board that do know eldar, and are very constructive, the problem is really with the question.
The first point is that almost no one with any experiace plays Eldar as per the Codex Eldar, most play specific craftworlds, each different Eldar army is a vastly different entity, with different choices in different categories and different stratergies/styles of play. As a Basic guide:
Vanilla = Codex Eldar
Beil Tann = Loads of Aspect Warriors
Alaitoc = Loads of snipers
Saim Hann = jetbikes and vypers
Iyanden = Wraith Guard and Wraith lords
Ulthwe = loads of guardians and Seers
Ulthwe Strike Force (Codex Eye of terror) = like ulthwe but no big stuff and they have a warp gate
Harlequins = see subfolder
Exodites = (unofficial codecies) Eldar on dinasuars
But that is only a basic guide, you really need the codex in order to ask pertinant questions
Next, no one is gonna write a list for you, it does happen once in a blue moon when someone is feeling very generous, but the problem is that eldar, unlike most other armies, are very stylised and a list needs to match the style of the person using it, to give you a classic Example, two of the most regular posters (myself and Salamander) have a complete dissagreement on the use of Warp Spiders, one of us (me) will tell you not to touch them with a barge pole, and the other I suspects wants a new spider craftworld (sorry mate, coudnt resist), on this and a number of other areas of Eldar there is no right and wrong,
The best general aproach, once you have decided which craftworld to play is to put together a list for that craftworld, whilst you are doing this, by all means ask questions, but do try and make them specific, do some work yourself and others will be far more inclined to help. Then put the list up (in the army list forum) and you will get feedback allowing you to refine it, that will tell you what you may want to get next.
To all the more experianced heads that have read this far or are lost and happened on this paragraph by mistake, I am as guilty as every one else of getting fed up but lets try and help the new boddies, the forthcomming release of Codex Eldar next year means the situation is gonna happen more and more often. The last thing we want to do is put someone off, so try and keep it helpfull
Everything you have been told is a lie!
hi i'm new to eldar and need help understanding what is goin on (Y)
OK well you probably need to ask specifc questions, what is going on with what? in what way?
Everything you have been told is a lie!
1) What HQ unit is best with the Eldar Guardian Defender Squad?
2) Are there any restrictions on what I can use with my Falcon Grav Tank or am I allowed to play it in my army with any troop.
3) If I am new to Warhammer40k and Eldars, is getting 2 boxes of Eldar Guardian Defender Squads a smart idea? ($30 per box @ 16 models, thus making it 32 models) And then just an HQ making my starting army 33 models and maybe a backup vehicle?
Farseer is the best because that allows you a Warlock for your Guardians. Also get them a support weapon.
I would get 2 boxes of Guardians, a Farseer and a Warlock & Support Weapon for each squad.
A backup vehicle, I recommned a Vyper.
In regards to the Falcon question, any unit can ride in it as long as the squad is small enough, except for Wraithguard, Wraithlord, or Avatar, and any unit with a Support Weapon.
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
*yeah ok but its biel-tan niet beil-tann
*harlequins are a subcult it can be used as ally
but you need to ask promition for it
Wel they aint really a subcult of eldar because also Dark eldar may use them they are not for the eldar or the dark eldar and fight with a cause no1 knows except they and a few priviliged eldar. they are masters of CC compared to other eldar and if you ask me they come closer with some of there units to dark eldar then eldar. But lets get back on topic again shall we? I recommend ppl that ask questions wat are the best HQ etc should make a new topic instead of replying here. Also I would ask to plz only post here with a serious question about the rules that are shown above. TY already.
However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.Learn from yesterday.
Live for today
Hope for tomorrow
ok now I need help
1. quetion im deciding to play biel-tan but I dont know what are troops and what are elites and I dont know what aspect warriors are so dont tell me there aspect warriors I dont know what that is lol.
2. I'm trying to play a good ranged and somewhat good cc what TROOPS do I need and like I asked in the other qeustion what are there troops and stuff aren't they striking scorpions howoling banshees and warp spiders and if so do wraith guards count too.
and thats all my big problem is knowing what the troop and crap are. becuase I bought the chaos codex and didnt really learn anything about them now I dont want to be them. If your biel-tan just convince me to be them and stuff thx for your help.
the most important thing here is the rulebook. if you don't have one you need to buy or borrow one similarly if you haven't already got an eldar codex (the blue one, not the craftworld eldar codex) then you need to buy one as you won't be able to play eldar without it. you also need the craftworld eldar codex if you haven't got one.
biel-tan are allowed to use aspect warriors as troop choices. aspect warriors are the following in the eldar codex: striking scorpions, howling banshees, warp spiders, dark reapers, dire avengers, fire dragons, shining spears and swooping hawks. the last two can't be taken as troops though.
as a trade off for this, guardian squads, storm guardians, rangers, guardian jetbikes and vyper jetbikes become elite choices.
ok with the guardains can u still have a weapon platform? And does wraithlords count as heavy and wraithguards count as elite?
