It says in the tau codex that the blacksun filter can only be used for the commander of the unit but does this not mean the comm cud not just tell them where to fire and so the whole unit could shoot the same spotting distance.
Destruction is the work of an afternoon. Creation is the work of a lifetime.
I'm not sure it ever explicity said, but I'm pretty sure it means the whole unit can see that far. Otherwise it'd be kinda useless on a firewarrior squad, wouldn't it?
Blacksun Filters are really only useful on Independant Broadsides,
Hammerheads, and Commanders.
They are totally useless to Firewarriors, Pathfinders, Stealthsuits.
And only of moderate value to Crisis Suits. Other Hardwired Gear would be better choise for a Team Leader Crisis.
I think that suits should already have them built in with all the sensors and stuff that comes standard with it. Just an idea.

Yeah, I wlawyas thought they could point to where the enemy fire, but rules are rules, and so only the model with the filter makes use of it. (That sounds kinda obvious.)
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
In 4th edition, squad leaders or IC's with "improved senses" bestow their benefits to the squad they join. If you assume that Blacksun Filters qualify as "improved senses", then the whole squad benefits. Check out the BBB.
