Welcome to Librarium Online!
I don't actually mean a charging hive tyrant, those I can let chase or chase it with crisis suits. What I really want to know how to stop is a winged tyrant. Deep striking or just moving 12".
Well, really u should have a Shas'o with at least two bodyguards. Equip them with Fusion Blasters and shoot him and move back in the assualt phase.
Versus a FLYING tyrant? 12" move?
Yes my friend, that's the reason I play nids! :shifty: I know it seems fast, but it can even use fleet of wing! Anyways I would just use your hammerhead tank, and broadsides, they always have a way of getting hive tyrants down fast. If the guy your're facing against has 2 tyrants (which most nid armies have) I would suggest using your crisis suits, but they aren't as good as broadsides.Originally posted by Sir_Prometheus@Oct 30 2004, 15:33

You call those cheap implants boobs?
They aren't boobs, they're lies!
Crisis suits with plasma rifles (stay at about two feet and try to leap behind cover to avoid those venom cannons).
Hammerheads and broadsides, enough rail guns can probably take a hive tyrant down before it really becomes a threat.
If it deepstrikes, well, concentrate as much fire on it as you can before it can assault...you dont' want it getting into melee. While you're doing this, use stealth suits, gundrones, or kroot to distract the rest of the tyranid horde that's coming at you.
yes hive tyrants can have wings, my gf's does (i know i helped her desgn and build it) and it can get into combat by turn two (one if you use a four foot board) its horrendous. Railgun its alien backside but remember if its done properly it wont be instant killed (T6 agsnt S10)
WELL SAID, NO MORE SQUATS THEY ARE DEAD GET OVER ITOriginally Posted by artificer
Yes, we were all aware of that, thankyou.
I concur.... Make use of Marker Lights, and Rail Guns.
Though, You should be cautious NOT to pay total attention to it. If you Hammer Heads and Broadsides are entirely absorbed in trying to kill the Tyrant, your going to end up losing to the 'gaunts you neglected to drop sub-munitions on.
Actually, your best bet would probably be Kroot. I don't know how many you can field, but my Tyrants always have the toughest time against Kroot due to their large squads. A fully decked out Tyrant is only going to get 6 attacks on the charge, and since the best possible to hit roll in HtH is 3+, the Tyrant will hit 66% (or 4) on average. 4 is a massive number against a 10 man Fire Warrior squad, but against a 16 strong Kroot squad (or more, not a Tau player so I'm just going from what I've faced here), that isn't that much. It should take the Tyrant at least 2 turns to cause enough wounds to start making the squad roll (with decent negatives) for morale, so that's 2 turns you can desimate the rest of the army from range (as well as manuver vehicles into better firing positions, set up fire traps with other squads, what not)
TMC are truly beasts in HtH, but against large squads with decent Ld, they get stuck (just like any other single HtH beast). The big bonus to TMCs is they draw a lot of fire due to their 2+ save and the ability for most to do massive damage in HtH and at range. Tyranid players use this to their advantage to draw fire away from the much more fragile remainder of their army (ie, our best save for 90% of the army is 5+ a.k.a. paper mache armor)
My advice is to guard the unit you think will most likely be charged by the Hive Tyrant by putting a "screen" of Kroot in front, so that the Tyrant has to charge into them first.

You can in theory have a 31 strong Kroot Squad.....
8 Kroot Hounds
However, Typically you will face a 20 strong squad, with a shaper, and X number of hounds, as Krootox as a waste of HEAVY SUPPORT options.
I personally like 19 Kroot, 1 Shaper with upgrades to the team, and 8 Hounds.
Sure, that can eat up a Tyrant, But its 228 points.... How many points is a Hive Tyrant?
