With the opening of the new Space Marine Codex, and all 5 players at the location that I play at using maines I have heard that they have now become basically unstoppable. Has anyone faced off against the "new" space marine army.
I doubt that they have become 'unstoppable'. Give GW some credit for balancing the armies.

Well SM use to be kind of bad, i mean there we're making all these stuff for DH and Tau and others and then the SM started to be obsolete. So i don't blame GW for trying to make the space marines better. I'll have face off against a SM player and see how good they are now.
Damn straight homies! Of course tau kill SOB then they go on a pantie raid
All I've heard is that they made Librarians a lot better, and added points to most of the vehicles.
They've made it so Space Marines are a lot more customizeable. Allowing you to take different 'traits' to gain certain things. Of course each of the traits come with downsides as well.
The difficulty is that the army is now so customizeable that it is essentially impossible to develop a 'take all comers' list to combat Marines. It used to be that you could bring a few anti-vehicle weapons, bring a few AP3 weapons and you've got a list that can pretty effectively fight almost any Marine army. Well, with the new rules, you can do things like bring 6 Dreadnaughts... um, ok. Or bring 6 squads of assault marines. Add a Chaplain + Librarian + retinue and you've got ~70 assault marines on the table... um, ok. Or bring 6 Devastator squads. That's 24 missile launchers/Las Cannons on the table! Add 'Tankhunter' to all those and they get +1 to armor penetration too!
So yeah, while each of these options has associated 'downsides', the point is that any 'take all comers' list can't hope to compete with a specialized list like this. Sure, you could design a list to be able to defeat an army with 70 assault marines. But the list would be seriously lacking in other areas... and in a tournament situation, you can't afford to do that.
70 Assault Marines?
6 Dreadnaughts?
30 Devastators? :o
Vre'Tupa looked at the swarm of Space Marines flying over the tree tops, and stopped in his tracks.
Ui'Hun looked at his commander, and shouted, urgently, "What do we do?!".... "Sir?"
Vre'Tupa staggered slightly, and looked at Ui'Hun.... urine running down his greaves.... "Shas'Ui, we die.... "
I haven't played a new space marine army yet, but soon i will because my brother has blood angels. He already beats me all the time and if the rumor is true and the new space marines are better then i guess i am screwed. I guess i gotta wait till the new tau codex comes out. <_<
My read on it is that they took the space marines (who are already the stick that everyone measure their army by) and made them better.
umm, unlucky mate, there is not going to be a new tau codex. sm's, necrons, tau, wh, dh and ig are not going to get redone.Originally posted by Tau37@Nov 7 2004, 20:12
