Kroots are supposed to be these giant flesh eating guys write? are they alllies with tau or just idiots that serve under them? Most important of all, are they worth it and are they good?
Just wanted to know cuz my friend is starting to collect tau
--------------------- PART ONE: "What the heck are they?" ----------------------------------
Kroot are anthropomorphic avians from the planet Pech.
They are capable of digesting the DNA of other life forms, and over extended periods of time, absorb the content and add it to portions of their own DNA. Some decendant species of Kroot, such as the Kroot Hound, Krootox, and Knarloc have gone down set genetic absorbtion trails to where they have lost their ability to do so, becoming stuck in a single evolutionary form.
Kroot communicate by the use of clicks, whistles, and squawks, and odor. They are however, very capable of learning spoken languages, even in quick time periods.
A final interesting note about the Kroots bizarre anotomy, is their lack of waste material. They simply digest everything, and use it, or throw it up. This saves their planetary economy a bundle on toilet paper!
---------------------- PART TWO: "What is their relationship to the Tau?"------------------
The Kroot were discovered by the Tau, and quickly joined the Tau Empire. They were greatly impressed with the Tau's superiour technology, and wisely chose the destiny to join up. This however doesnt mean the Kroot are blind followers. They have had a history of being Mercenaries, and even now, with the gifting of technology from the Tau, persue their Mercenary lifestyles, flying from planet to planet in massive Kroot War Spheres, to the dismay of the Aun's. However this is generally tolerated, as the Kroot provide a valuable addition to the Tau Empire,
In the end, the Greater Good is to use the Kroot, and accept them with open arms, dispite their faults, and differances.
---------------------- PART THREE: "Are they any good?" -----------------------------------
Kroot are extremely valuable to any Tau player. They are very useful in close combat, a skill that the rest of the Tau army lacks in severely. They are armed with a simple, but effect black-powder rifle, loaded with Explosive rounds provided by the Tau. Kroot Rifles also commonly have blades and points attached to them are various locations, this provides them with the additional close combat attack, similar to being armed to two weapons.
A Kroot Squad can have a Kroot Shaper included in them. The Kroot Shaper is an effective command unit in its own right, but allows the purchase of Armour Upgrade specials for the rest of your Kroot Carnivore Squad. This gives them a 6+ save, and increases their Leadership to 8 as well, a very valuable upgrade concidering the importance of Leadership in the new version of the main rules.
Finally, Kroot Carnivore Squads can have Kroot Hounds, or Krootox added to them.
Krootox, are a large, herbivorous Kroot sub-species, with straps attached to them that mount a Kroot Gun, a larger Kroot made black powder weapon, also equiped with explosive rounds gifted from the Tau. A single Kroot rides on the hind end of the Krootox to fire the gun. However, they are quite inneffective compared to the other Tau Heavy Unit choices.
Kroot Hounds, are smaller, nimble, four legged Kroot, known for their vicious nature. They only use close combat attacks, and do so marvelously, not to mention providing the an additional freebie attack on any unit who breaks from close combat from you, wether or not you succeed in the innitiave check. Added to a full Carnivore Squad, Kroot Hounds are quite lethal, and can bring the total figures in the single squad up to 28, making it very hard to bring down, without a signicant portion of your enemy focusing solely on it.
You can get more then one kroot hound pack in a single carnivore squad.Added to a full Carnivore Squad, Kroot Hounds are quite lethal, and can bring the total figures in the single squad up to 28
So the total number of figures can be raised to 40 (20 kroot and 8 + 8 + 4 hounds).
You don't need a shaper, you can also take an etheral to enhance the leadership.
You sure? I thought it mentions that only a single attachment can be done per squad, if not, im gonna be building myself a nice uber Kroot Squad.
Only problem I can forsee, if If I pack 'em in like rats to get max advantage of the 2 inch CC rule, they are gonna be SO prone to getting ordnance dropped on thier frilly heads.

That would be a Pretty Hefty Squad for only 300 points!
you cannot put more kroot add on models than there are kroot in the original squad. I believe that is the only stipulaton on extra squads of hounds or krootox.
kroot hounds are your extra bodies, they are cheaeper than the standard kroot carnivore, and their armor and leadership upgrades for free in comparison to the normal kroot having to pay. they are a little faster in combat, so if you're aimed at making it a CC squad, they are a good investment for such low cost.
Protect your frailty in a Mechanical body.
Remove your frailty with mobility.
Hide your frailty in a body unseen.
Sweet! Only need to get 10 Kroot Hound Blisters now.
Ugh, $80 of Kroot Hounds? *sigh* *shaked the moths out of her billfold*
