Here's my recent Saim-Hann list, nearly painted now (I'll get some pix when they are):
Vyper, EML, spirit stone = 80
Vyper, StarC, spirit stone = 75
Vyper, StarC = 65
Vyper, StarC = 65
Vyper, SL = 55
Vyper, SL = 55
Anyway, thought I'd just report back on the results so far - very impressive. Played 8, won 5.
Against marines (3), I've won every battle. Concentrating the starcannons squad by squad wipes them out in 1, or at the most 2 turns of shooting, and I've rolled far too many double 6s for the scatter laser shots. One game I won without losing a single Vyper.
Against Eldar (1), it was a massacre. He plays Biel-Tan, and for some reason took 10 Howling Banshees in a combat patrol ( ) - suffice to say the starcannons made short work of them. His other main choice - Dark Reapers - could have been more problematic had I not got the first turn and wiped them all out with 9 shots from the scatter lasers. ^_^
Imperial Guard (1) was closer, but still a win. The 2 Chimeras were effective at taking down Vypers, but their side armour is thin enough for 4+ to glance for most of my weapons - and then the guard that pile out are completely ineffective against AV10. This was also the only battle in which the EML finally managed to be effective, pinning an entire unit.
The only losses were all against the same Tau army (3). This army has crisis suits which always skip back behind cover after shooting. Not only that, the fire warrior's 30" S5 pulse rifles are just nasty. Any tips on how to beat these guys?
On the good side, I'm allying with this Tau army and entering the 40k Doubles Tournament in January. We'll have an ultra-shooty, ultra-mobile force that should be extremely effective.

Well, with a basically all-Vyper army, I think it'll be rather difficult to defeat Tau. One of the biggest strategies used with almost any army vs. Tau is to get them in assault as fast as possible and don't let them shoot at you. Not sure how well the Vypers would handle that. The Crisis Suits would prove to be a problem...Maybe stay in cover, but I don't see how that would help you win, either. That's a tough one. :hmm:
the best thing tau do is take down vehicals.......
thats a toughie. and you cant assault them
maybe you need jet bikes, and shining spears to get in cc.
Actually, while Tau excel at anti-Vehicle Weaponry, they still have massive problems taking down fully equipped Falcons (which are incredibly good at taking down Crisis Suits and Fire Warriors) and even Wave Serpents thanks to their Force Fields. Since you're playing Saim-hann I'd just advice you to copy the Tau's hit - and - run playstyle as your Jetbikes also get that invaluable assault move to hide back into cover. It should be possible to catch frisky crisis suits with your fleet of foot assault killers, most prominently banshees. And as for Fire Warriors, you have the options to either outrange them on the open field, or just use your superior speed to engage them after breaking from cover - but at all costs you should avoid los to about any of your infantry units that isn't a Dark Reaper unit as it will most likely get hammered.
And as for the alliance thing, I've been playing allies with an imho extremely good Saim-Hann player here, and what can I say, Tau and Saim-Hann are like lock and key. Having a fast army that can actually engage in CC in some situations and is even more mobile than my Crisis suits while benefiting from the same assault move is almost cheesy. Go Tau & Eldar alliances!
