Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm thinking of starting necrons as a second 40k army. I don't want many cc units since my last army was nids. I also want a destroyer lord with an orb. I want a monolith, but not sure if I want a c'tan. I really like immortals. What do you guys think I should get to start?
I got a destroyer lord and 2 boxes of warriors at first. Then got wraiths and flayed ones. As you can see in my sig I have only lost 1 game out of 5 which I think is pretty good. If you want a shooty army I would advise getting destroyers and heavy destroyers.
Well the Necron's don't have many options for weapons, but what they do have is pretty nice (in my mind). The first thing you should get are 2 squads of warriors (duh), and a lord, if you want a destroyer lord go for it. Warschythes are great on lords when they get in combat (which is usually the best place for one). You should get a unit or two of destroyers, and if you really wanna go for shooty get some heavy destroyers also. Tomb spyders are our friends, we all must love them because they are so darn helpful. If you don't really want to much close combat, go for immortals for your Elites, I for one don't like them and usually opt for flayed ones. Wraiths are also really good.
So ya, get a lord, some troupes, and a couple destroyers to start you off.
If you really want shooty, though, Armoured Company is the only good pure shooty army (silly tou).

get the necron starter box thingy (2 if you have the cash) and a destroyer lord. once you have that done you can slowly (or quickly if you want) add immortals to your army.
What about the battleforce box for necrons? It seems like a good deal. I was thinking of getting that and a destroyer lord.
see my above post.
the battleforce box is the best way to get destroyers. try to find one on ebay or something if you can, as thats the best way to really save money.
sorry, about that! It's just we posted 1 minute from each other and I was already typing before you had posted!Originally posted by SendMoreParamedics@Nov 13 2004, 16:40

What about the c'tan? They seem strong, but all of you guys say they aren't worth the points. I'm aiming for a 2000 point list, so a monolith and a c'tan would be about 600 points. Is that too much?
C'tan are strong. I would get one with a 2000pt army. Monolith is about the same thing as a Land Raider, so yeah.Originally posted by red_talon@Nov 13 2004, 186

Would a destroyer lord and a nightbringer be a good team or would a walking lord and nightbringer be better? Or should I just keep them seperate and have the lord support immortals if he walks or destroyers if he has a desroyer body? So confused!
ok, about the lord:
my personal opinion on the destroyer lord is he should be used to prevent units from getting tied up in close combat. how you want to do that is up to you. some people give him VoD so he can warp out of hand to hand combat, others give him wargear aimed to keep him alive as long as possible. what you should in theory be doing with the destroyer lord is flying him over to whatever hotspot there happens to be an assault in so he can end it, leaving your troops to resume shooting. that said, why you would leave your lord attached to a single unit is beyond me. let him float about to where he is needed.
if you want a c'tan consider using it in the same way, but instead of having him rip around set him up in cover where he wont get shot to pieces before hes of any use, and wait for the enemy to come to you IF and only if the objectives in the mission allow you to sit back and shoot.
its all up to you though. remember, theres no such thing as a bad list, some are just more difficult to use than others.
