    Hi All,

After reading a lot of posts about the TS, I'm still not sure how useful they are to anyone except for the warriors. It's only useful if you have two or more squads of a certain unit, right? For wraiths and destroyers, usually they move too fast for the TS to keep within 12". For the Immortals and Flayed ones, usually people only play one squad of them due to point costs. so in the end it's only useful for warriors and only if one squad gets completely wiped out (since TS's don't help with power weapon or double strength deaths).

Can anyone enlighten me on how else the TS is useful (obviously the creating scarabs suck due to scarabs having to stay close to TS, thus losing movement, and the mixed toughness thing).

    Thanks!

A tomb spyder is a support unit. It's going to march up with your warriors towards the enemy, protecting them from any pesky assault troops that get in your way. A spyder is not a fun thing to be in combat with because while marines hit it on a 3+, they're wounding on 6's. It provides a deterent force and can assault into your opponent's shooters while your warriors shoot the assault troops. Plus against other necrons it does nasty things to a VoD'ing lord w/ warriors/immortals. People are much less likely to deepstrike a pack of assault marines next to your warriors if they know that tomb spyder is gonna come over and protect its babies. Plus, they excel at busting tanks.

That is pretty much it exactly. Tomb Spyders are mean in hth with most units. Other than their high toughness and strength, this is because the ignore peoples saves and count as 10 models for outnumbering purposes. If 10 assault marines hit a 20 man warrior squad and a tomb spyder counter charges the next turn you may not win combats, but you won't be outnumbered and running any time soon unless you get really bad rolls. That is very important since the easiest way to kill necrons is to run them off the board since they have no chance to stand back up.

Think of a Tomb Spyder like a bad@$$ vet for each of your Warrior sqds, because thats all they are.

Actually, the scarabs arnt TOTALLY useless. Like if you have 3 scarabs around the Spyder, and get hailed by 12 Bolter rounds. You will make saves, but the ones you dont make can be put on the Cannon fodder....er.....scarabs. Then when they die, you can just get more. That`s how I use `em anyway.

So, is the consensus here that the staff of light raygun thing on the TS is not as good as the extra claw attack? Or is it handy to have around before the assaulting starts (I can see it only getting one round of shooting before it comes down to fisticuffs because of it's short range.)
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!

Its really only effective against marine armies, and even then only if you roll a lot of 5's and 6's(like me).

Otherwise stick with the claw and let them deter assaults.

Even with the bad WS they are good units for counter charging and protecting the Necron Warriors
