Mine HAD a partially landed position, untill i dropped it and the base broke and i cried like a littel girl..

Yeah, it was neat: at an angle with the back two down and the fron partially down. One of the rear gear was touching the ground.

    But anyway, gravity sucks.

I like the flying bases, personally, but you can still easily make your models to use both.

I use flying stands... but I've re-made them all with metal posts since, as was mentioned, they have a tendancy to snap.

I've also mounted all my vehicles using the Landspeeder Ball and Socket joints so they can be tilted into more dynamic positions.

It's a bit of work, especially integrating the metal posts AND the Ball and Socket joints, but the combination has proved to be quite sturdy and look great.

Edit: Here are a few pictures.

gah, I never use those stupid flying bases, they look moronic, espacially on the crisis suits. Use a strong piece of wire drilled into the lowest point instead. Sturdier, and looks heaps better, and allows for far better dynamic poses.

My hammerhead and Devilfish are both outfitted with landing gear down plus using the flying base.

I usually start the game with my skimmers landed (as it takes no movement to start hovering) and if they get immobilized on the first turn or so they aren't destroyed. I also like to use cover to shield my Devilfishes when deploying pathfinders. It is good to have it landed behind cover as only then will it get the benefits of being behind cover, since when its hovering it can be easily seen. (I'm talking small man sized cover like fences or small hills)

Stryker, I did just that in 3rd edition, but now in 4th, even if you're immobilized on the first turn, you just fall to the ground since you didn't move >6" on the previous turn.

The only benefit now to starting the game landed is that you block line of sight... so you could potentially hide battle suits or other vehicles behind a landed Devilfish.
