What about the back grilly looking bit of a buggy, then just stick some more bits to it, maybe wheels, wires, etc. Ork conversions are awesome because if you screw up, it looks good!
My mekboy's KFF consists of parts from an old IG searchlight, tau shield generator and space marine auspex, all strapped onto his back.

i used a triple AAA battery glued to his back with a commo antenna glued to the top...a rubber band around his waist to look like it is in place. (Y)

i took a stormboy body and glued on a tau drone controller on his back, then added some paper clips as wires connecting it to the back. that body gives him the look like he hits a button on his chest to activate the field...

get the burna boy with the welding mask, cut off the nozzle to the mek's hand, put some wires and pipes into it, and find a shiny bit (like a gem or a battery or something) and stick it on as a power source thing.
