Im battling my friend tommorow, and he plays Space Wolves. This is my first time against him, and i need to know if theres any good strategy against them. We are playing a 1250 pt match, but I'm not too sure what he will be feilding. I know he has tacticle squads, bikes, long fangs, a venerable drednought, and a rhino. I don't know what his hq is, and I think he has some other stuff too. My army list is this:

Lord w/ res orb, gaze of flame, nightmare shroud, phylactery

2 squads of 20 warriors

3 destroyers

3 wraiths

5 scarabs

This is all I own, so I can't really change it. My necron count is 47, and phaze out at 12 necrons. How should I go about this battle? Sorry I can't provide his units, but hey, that wouldn't be very fair to us, now would it? Thanks in advance for your help.

quite simply do whatever you can to keep out of close combat. space wolves players have a nasty habit of filling all their squads up with hordes of power weapons (im sure a lot of them dont understand the rules, as it seems odd just how many they always seem to have. as a necron player i can only grin and bear it and make remarks about how i really wish they had an army list :hmm: ). make sure your scarabs go after his guys without the power weapons, and shoot the rest into oblivion. perhaps consider keeping your wraith and lord back, and then charging them in when the space wolf player gets too close for comfort. use that time to pull everything else back so you can keep on shooting later.

Your best bet, knock down his dreadnought and rhinos first, just because the dreadnought will open you up in CC, and the rhino moves his guys faster. Thats what i did, and use ur wraiths to counter attack. best of Luck!

Watch out for Scouts. They can sneak in from your board edge, and if they charge one of those 20 man squads, you just lost half your firepower for a turn or two. Keep the wraiths floating around to intercept possible charges, and when he gets close, don't be afraid to move and fire. You can move and rapid fire now, so use it to your advantage. The scarabs will be great at tying up a squad, or if you gave them disruption fields, they might even be able to tie up or take down the dread(if you turbo boost them out to it)

I played Space Wolves and won by 502 points last Sunday. What you gotta do (as SMP said earlier) KEEP OUT OF CC! Since you don't have a Monolith that can tele your troops, I would recomend using Veil of Darkness. In my game it saved me more than once. When his 2 squads close in on one of yours, you tele it out and he has to start walking, hehe. And as Gojiratoho said, watch your back. He can send in scouts from your table edge! You don't want loads of powerfist attacks in your destroyer squad (N) , so keep your destroyers away from him and away from your table edge. Shoot his transports in the beginning. If you can wreck them, the embarking troops become entangled (=pinned) and can do nothing in their next turn. That is good for you, then you can shoot them down

Hope this helps, and good luck! If you want to see what army I used, follow this link http://www.librarium-online.com/inde...howtopic=24794

You phase out at 11. The rules say reduced to 25% or less (25% is 11.75) or lose 75% rounded up (75% is 35.25 so rounded up is 36). Check the rules and you'll see that the rounded up part only apples to the 75% rule, not the 25% rule.

I'm not saying it's gonna make a huge difference but you'll need all the help you can get if those Blood Claws get you into CC.

Given the fact that he has a Venerable dreadnaught you can bet on going second so set all your troops in a much cover as you can.
Fortunatly since the battle is 1250 he needs to fill in 2 HQ, SW have very expensive HQ choices available to them.

Try to take out 1 or 2 squad a turn and start with those that can reach you fast.
Rhino and Dred should be your first priority, destroying the rhino will result in the troops beeing pinned and they would have to move on foot.

you must must must take the veil of darkness so that if you do get caught in close combat you can use it to pull your unit out.

Thanks for your help. Game was delayed to next thurs. Knowing him, his parents will find away to deny that date too, as this is the fourth change already. :hmm: Anyways, I changed my Lord to have a VoD, and if I'm lucky, I'll have a squad of flayed ones that I might be able to use by then. Would it be wise to use them? From what you guys have said, SW are killer in CC, so it makes me weary to bring in my own CC specialists, as I don't know if they'll fair well. Any sugestions? Also, to clear it up, I don't have his army list for two reasons, one, he hasn't made it yet, and two, we aren't gonna show each other them, so as not to give anything aeway.

One of the important thing about VoD is that you CANNOT assault after using it. Use it to attract your opponents forces in one direction, then tele out of there, leaving them open to your destroyer fire I haven't that much experience with flayed ones, but I have 3 Wraiths and a Lord on Dest body with Phase Shifter and Res Orb. and a Warscythe. They kick ass in CC.
