Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am starting a new army...Iyanden craftworld army...eventhough I hear from every side that Iyanden sucks, I simply cannot resist the call...after last tournament where the winner were thousnad sons chaos space marines with cca 35 models I think everything is possible...so I will try to build well rounded Iyanden force...
Well I play eldar for more than 5 yeas now, Ulthwe craftworld to be more speciffic and I wanna try something else...beceause I know noone playing Iyanden and noone who knows somebody who plays them I am asking for your help...
I think that avatar is useless to me, as it is slow as rest of my army and will propably never see close combat..last time he got killed by bolter pistols I felt pretty sceptic about this guy...if you think that he would be good addition to my force tell me why and I should reconsider...
So my Hq will be farseer...or farseers...I was thinking about giving him witchblade, pistol, Mind war, Fortune, Runse of witnessing, Runes of warding (I know these are pretty useless but I won´t to get butchered by some Slaanesh daemon untargettable prince and it is my only chance how to stop spellcasting, oh how I wish for a Psychic hood for christmas), Ghosthelm and Spirit stones...it will make them for about 150 points each...playing two of them it is cca 300.
My troops will be two squads of 8 wraithguard joined with warlock equiped with witchblade and pistol, casting conceal for them...I was thinking about playing 5 and give them wave serpent but I do not think that 5 wraithguard is really threat enough...each of this squad will be joined by farseer.
Another two troops will be suprisingly two wraithlords with birghtlance each to give me some "long"ranged anti vehicle support...
Fast attack. There will be three one-vyper strong vyper eldar jetbike squads each with starcannon. Starcannon and nothing else...
And it comes to be cca 1400 points...most games I play are 2000 points and local tournaments are 2000 too...so I need to know what to include next...I think that my army lacks some mesh armour cleansing system so perhaps squad of shadow weavers but I never played them so I do not know how good or bad are they...I do not trust vibrocannons as they require LoS and I am afraid that my support squad will get shot bad by counterattack...and d-cannons are pretty low ranged but I do not deny this option absolutely...or perhaps some war walkers equiped with scatter lasers? Or dark reapers? There are pretty much marines sneaking around...I do not know...perhaps some aspect warriors support would be nice...any advice?
have you got some experience with Iyanden? Their strenghts and their weaknesses? I know they are slow and tough...but thousand sons are also and I watched them win tournament without loosing single battle...
I have no experience whatsoever with Iyanden.
But the only thing i noticed was that you put 2 brightlances on the wraithlords, and starcannons on the Vypers, why?
Wouldn't it be wiser to put the starcannons on the wraithlords, and the brightlances on the Vypers? This would allow your vypers to swivel around to the side of tanks and peck them off before the battle while the wraithlords fire into the enemy lines prior to a charge, ect.
Just a thought.
I am an experience Iyanden player played for 4 years with and heres my advice starcannons go to wraithlords bright lances go to vypers so they can get to the tanks easier take a swooping hawk squad with exarch with web of skulls and pistol and consider either Banshees or scorpions you need some close combat for the army also scatter laser warwalkers they are AMAZING I've seen people get 30 shots of a full squad being guided by a farseer they are deadly even without farseer support, well thats my Iyanden Inspection hope this helps you progress your army.-OSD
This is my Iyanden list, it got positive replies in the army lists section, but I couldn't find it there...

Warp Spiders: 132

You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
As Iyanden's army composition revolves around Wraithguard units and Wraithlords, it has to have a certain degree of adaptability against certain opponents.
As discussed in this thread, where should Brightlances go? On a BS3 Vyper or BS4 Wraithlord.
I have converted all my heavy weapons mounts with magnets and glued metal nuts to the cannons.
I will face hordes? I snap on Scatter Lasers and Shuriken Cannons.
Tanks? Brightlances and Missile Launchers
Space Marines? Starcannons galore!
So no more single-role heavy weapons units!
It's not because Eldar units' roles are very specific that you have to set them with CrazyGlue™!!!
"Rolling sixes with a Wraithcannon. Priceless."
- Craftworld Eldar Iyanden, 2000pts
- Space Marines Dark Angels, 2000pts
- Dark Eldar, 2000pts
- Chaos Death Guard, 2000pts
Firstly, welcome to the Iyanden craftworld, there are far too few of us who will deliberately make things hard on ourselves. (We need more finesse than most Eldar players and have less tactical flexibilty. ) Know this, though: Nothing is as fearsome as an Iyanden force that has made it to within 12" of the enemy line.
I am inclined to agree with Deadman and Chicken about installing brightlances on the Vyper squad. Their speed will get the anti-armor power of the lances in range more quickly. A guiding Farseer, on a jetbike if necessary, can assist the Vypers with their shooting. The starcannons on the Wraithlords will get in range of the Marines soon enough, certainly before they're in range. (Marines is the common opponent. It's always Marines of some sort.)
(Just to be extra-fluffy, I model the vehicles in the army without any kind of pilots and give them all the Spirit Stone upgrade; but that's only when I'm going overboard.)
Additionally, I will load a brightlance-equipped Wave Serpent with Wraithguard while two other larger units (between 7-10) of wraithguard foot-slog. If fortuned and enhanced, that five-soul squad of Wraithguard can occupy an enemy's flank indefinitely while the real muscle gradually makes its way to the front. If you're opponent will allow it, take Iyanna Arienal in the Wave Serpent instead of a Warlock. Her stats are OK, but she is very good luck. Of course, every 'wraith' unit is accompanied by a spiritseer or warlock.
WHFB: Dwarfs || WH40k: Imperial Fists, Necrons || WM/H: Trollbloods || BFG: Necrons
I have only played once with Iyanden and 1 time against Iyanden.
The worst thing about your army is that it has to get within 12'' of he opponent. They are kinda slow and peepz prefer assaulting yor Wraithguards then letting them being shot. Every warlock should have the power to give them a 5+ inv. otherwise things like starcannons dissies will rip trough your flank like a heavy bolter does on IG. Yu might want to consider using several waveserpents to transport your Wraithguards faster also 1 squad of banshees to go ahead in a flank might be usefull. I would recommend playing some batlles and using proxies or f you already have WG let them go for Iyanden play like 5 batlles and look yourself this can save you alot of money when you decide not to go collect iyanden at all.
However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.Learn from yesterday.
Live for today
Hope for tomorrow
Well Thanx for your advice...
I bought some wraithguard, vypers and wraithlords...I started painting and I have to say that I HATE YELLOW!!! Ok...ehm...so the reason I equiped my lords with brightlances is simple. The brightlance shot from front that hits is much better than brightlance shot from rear that misses...The wraithlords got superior balistic skill and so they have the privilege to mount brightlance. Otherwise starcannon with its three shot can make even tanks worry with its strenght 6 when most of the tanks played got rear armour value 10. I will consider to play one wraithguard unit in wave serpent and one unit of cc specialist in ws...but I prefer striking scorpions as they can butcher even Space marines (three times more attacks) and can wipe out orks and tyranids...but with these the point cost of my army will rise truly high...I will check it..thanx alot!
If I were you I would take 4 squads of wraith guard whatever size you want but one of them make 5 wraith guard with a warlock with enhance. Put this squad in a wave serpent and you can use them to either attack tanks early on in the game or for CC to tie up their heavy weapon squads to allow the rest of your rather slow army to advance unmolested. Also keep the bright lances on your wraithlords as unlike the vypers they have BS4 so might actually hit something with their 1 shot per turn! And any way with brightlances all armour is considered no better than 12 so feel free to just shoot the fronal armour Because it still only needs a 4+ to glance. Any way hope this helped good luck
He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day!
yes, I think that you should put brightlances on the wriathlord, you need 4's to wound, 5+ to penetrate ANYTHING (except the monolith). And Vypers arnt really that great. Although maybe with a guided squad you could wreak havok.
i reccomend mounting the wraithguard
