Welcome to Librarium Online!

i've heard alchohol makes you stupid!
No i'm . . . doesn't
It won't be the easiest army to use, to put it mildly. You could try a variant 'Counter Attack' strategy with them. Have the Mandrakes hidden-deployment models advance in 3 groups of 3 while a strong firebase of Warriors blast at the advancing enemy. On turn 3, the Mandrakes 'decloak' and assault anything nearby, backed up by tooled-up Reaver Squads and characters on Reavers. Maybe worth proxying models to experiment with first, to see if it's viable at all. I think it would heartily suck against shooty armies that don't move, but could be decent against balanced armies and hordes.

Don't buy the madrakes if you go with this force. Convert Warriors.
1. File down the shoulder pads.
2. Use the SP/CCW from the sprues.
3. Use the heads without helmets.
3. Paint the arms flesh color and give them gloves.
I did a few using a Mandrake as a template and you really don't see a difference. A non DE player would never know.
yeah converted that what I've done frankly I think they just look darn better that way anyway.
I like the idea! Though, I do have soft spot for mandraks.
To put it bluntly, mandrakes are awesome due to the new rules. It's not that the new rules make them better, rather, it makes raider rush tactics worse (though I still love giving it a go with my wyches).
Drakes are nearly always guaranteed to reach the opponent (standard table is 4' wide. Start 12" in move forward turns one, two and three (18" moved) deploy within 4" of the drake counter, fleet of foot, assault another 6". 35"-40" deployment range) with a whole crap load of attacks (30 on the charge with a full squad) or, they are nearly guaranteed to find a nice 4+ building to sit in (with chamelione, their save becomes 2+ cover!!! to make the enemy pass morale checks to shoot past them.
Of course, they do suck in the options department, as for no sgt upgrade or weapons options availability, and the 'surprise deployment' from the three drake counters is rarely a surprise, as your opponent will mostly know where they are going to hit.
I do recommend converting warriors rather than buying the actual drake models (the drake models suck in my opinion, and are way more expensive and harder to find).
Give em a try. Proxy wyches or something and you'll soon see that they are a great addition to your army.
Yay, im not alone in the mandrake loving, these guys are very useful, they should always be charging through there deployment, get lots of attacks, and are great for targeting weak but hard hitting units such as imperial heavy weapons teams or devastators, although they might not win, they will stop them shooting for some turns!

one thing that sucks about mandrakes is they have no upgrades...imagine a mandrake lord...mandrake with sf, agniser...that's devastating...even when his/her sf breaks, the auto cover save would keep working!.... :hmm: one can only dream....I guess you'de be stupid to dream about a mandrake lord...yup... :hmm:

Take a bunch of raiders for your other walkers and have them deepstrike, allong with your ravengers. This army is very very effective, yet if the timing is bad it will totally get screwed over.
You will start the game with no actual models on the table.

I saw a large DE army in my local club get beat down when it used a lot of Mandrakes vs Tau.
Like you said, your opponet unless he is the very rare kind of person, will most likely know where you are going to attack with the counters...
Well in this case, the Tau quickly caught the Mandrakes in crossfire. Since they kept in open terrain as much as possible, most of the DE army was ripped apart before they could inflict much damage.
The only reason DE won, was because they accomplished the scenario objective because the Tau tried to pick off the DE army at range, and did a fine job of it, but the scenario objectives for the DE was inside the buildings, which the tau would not go near being mostly guns, with one unit of Kroot. Tau players just give up on their squads for Close combat but also at the same time use those soon to be dead squads to tie up enemies to be counter attacked.
In the event that you have to fight the Tau, think of including something that can counter this.
I win quite a few battles while sustaining more casualties than my opponent. Your first sentence up there says it all. Mission Objectives. Most players will get fixated on how easy it is to kill a Str-3, T-3, 5+save warrior and run around the table killing warriors. Invariably on turn 6 when I announce that I won he'll slap his forehead when he realizes his mistake. But lo and behold next week it'll be the same thing over again. They never learn. Our race is way to fragile to be able to go toe to toe with most armies.Originally posted by Mintaka@Dec 1 2004, 05:32
